Hey everybody! I want to make the effort to keep in touch with everyone because all of you were like family to me for the past few years. I'm a little bummed that I left before the christmas party but I think I'll get over it. So far things are going well and I was welcomed with near 0 degree temps. Today it should be getting up to 35 degrees which is closer to normal. On my way out I stopped in Knoxville and Kansas to break things up a bit and arrived in Golden on the 5th, just missing the bad weather. After a couple days there I drove to Lyons, just north of Boulder, where I think I'm gonna settle for a couple years. Lyons was one of the hardest hit towns during the flood and there are a lot of job opportunities to help rebuild. We'll see if I can land a good job. My cousin is a firefighter here and he and the department are regarded as heros because their quick actions saved a lot of people. Listening to some of the stories really make you reflect on what you do with your life. So hanging out with them is not only an honor but has a lot of pull to get me in touch with the right people. Also, it's a volunteer station, so if my job here allows enough time I'm going to join the ranks soon.

I'll keep updating this thread occassionally in hopes that it will coerce some of you to come visit me some time. Here are some pics; After Golden that's Steamboat Mountain heading out of Lyons, then some pics from the house I'm staying in. The deer couldn't see into the window.

Some more pics of where I'm staying temporarily. All pics taken within the property lines (40 acres) and it has a shooting range and professional skeet thrower. The little white line below the house is the 8 mile long driveway. the 14ers in the distance shot are in Rocky Mountain Park.
Oh, and I will mention the property is for sale so if anyone wants a great vacation home that they'd like to rent out it's $400k. Just saying.

Looks like you are about to embark on a new/exciting chapter of life! Best of luck Mike!

Thanks all. Weather is getting warmer already. I feel right at home here. Now off to the Oskar Blues Brewery for some brews and live music. Gotta go "network" with the locals.

Exactly! Stay safe buddy!

Go say Hi to brett when you go to Oskar Blues. I think he is only 3 miles from the place... right next to the left hand brewery.

Maybe you can convice him to take his beater Trooper out on the trails before his new cruiser arrives.

Looks like you are living the life my friend.

Two nice elk bulls were in the yard yesterday.

I've been hanging out at the Oskar Blues in Lyons, where it all began. Brett lives in Longmont? Didn't know he was so close by. I'll send him a message.

What's that Adam? I dont understand. Are you trying to reach out? Do you need help?

That is some pretty countryside. Everything is much bigger around the west coast mountains.

Looks awesome Mike! We missed you at the Christmas party, but glad you're settling in so well. Best of luck finding a job. I'm sure you'll do great!

Update

The adventure continues. Last saturday I traveled to visit some friends in Aspen and decided to keep my options open for employment. With no regret I accepted a job today at a cross country skiing tour company in the ghost town of Ashcroft. It'll carry me along till spring and keep me outdoors and active. A lot that had to do with staying here through the winter is the local prediction of one of the best snow seasons in a decade. Honestly, Aspen is way out of my league on a financial level but I'm sure I'll find my way to the gritty underbelly of the blue collar demographic in no time. People around here wear sunglasses worth more than most of our trucks.
I added some pics showing the view from the slopes, view from the house I've been welcomed into of the slopes, and the available transportation if my Audi can't get through a deep snow fall. It's a 1981 with major body rust and plenty of character. It runs better than any 2f that I have every driven. Also I took a shot across the hood at Aspen Highlands ski area and the valley where the town is.
