Funny how the coilpack engine is relatively common in the 105 series here in Aus, yet I don't think I know of anyone here who's even attempted the swap..... Hope it all goes well let me know if you need anything I can check the wreckers.

A Honda 1FZ that would be unique. If anything it might have had a VVTi head but I don't believe so. lol.

Didn't they make the 1 fz as a vtec as well?

I know what you meant, jut giving you crap. lol.

Bummer, that adds considerable power. Ya vvti. Not vtec. I work on all kinds of cars all day. The manufacturer specific terms kinda blend together.

Frank, you have brought a really nice dynamic to the same old thing on MUD as far as the US stuff goes (Hint:AUS guys, step it up!). Love your family Columbia connection, much to offer from such a Cruiser strong country. This will be a great swap and fun to watch. I know you come across killer deals from Columbia, but if you did a turbo as a power adder vs. a supercharger I believe you would be really glad you did. The M90 does well but is a heat pump. A proper turbo would fit this more efficient iteration better IMO. Keep it coming!

I have been wondering about this swap myself. I really want one. Thank you for taking the time document it. Now just need to source one.

I used a RHD engine and harness for my 4Runner diesel swap and was forced to extend the harness. The RHD ECU would have needed to be where the LH drivers feet or gauges were.. adding a couple feet of harness to get it through the firewall in the original LHD harness spot was my only good option.

It was mostly straightforward, other than finding shielded wire for the crank sensor wiring and a special valve on that model of diesel injection pump. Between the O2 sensors and stuff in your old 1FZ harness you'll have plenty to harvest.. if you weren't planning on selling that stuff to recover some money

This is what I was thinking of doing. Extending the harness would be the easiest way to get it done. I will be documenting this when I get to that route.

So, was this engine ever available in a left hand driver format? I wonder how many of these engines were sold in various markets?

Only one I know of were the LHD 105's and the FJ70's in Venezuela.

I think the same engine was in the venezuelan 80s

The 80 never got a coildpacked 1FZ. It was the 70 that did. Then they were swapped over. Like this one

Waterproof distributor?? Pics Inside

Pat, I appreciate the advice. I will have to talk to you and @scottryana on pulling this off. I think the important thing would be to make sure the engine is rebuilt with the correct hardware to add a turbo in the future.

Let me know, I have a line with Australia, Venezuela and Colombia. I can always help.

Sub'd, looks forward to watching this unfold

If you are using an Australian ECU, they are able to run a turbo without any ECU changes (No OBDII) up to about 8psi. So not much worry there and there are some nice turbo manifolds out now for the 1FZ, like the 6boost manifold.

What needs to be done in the engine to run a turbo setup with 10lbs of boost?

So yesterday my care packages from the UAE arrived. Still waiting on the Japan ones. I ordered some parts for the engine and the 5 speed. My engine didnt come with a throttle body, she sure was expensive. $530 dollars later she is stateside. The engine overhaul gasket kit has some differences between the US 1FZ and the 105 1FZ. Mainly tied to the metal gaskets for intake manifold to the head and the top radiator hose to the head. So I ordered these separately. I will be using a US 1FZ overhaul gasket kit (04111-66036) for this rebuild. Injectors are different as well. They are headed to RC Engineering for rebuild.

Also my Land Cruiser Heaven leather wrapped steering wheel arrived. This will be a great addition to my interior.

Internally nothing. ARB headstuds would be fine but really overkill, on the ECU side I am not sure since I don't have any experience with the Aussie computer but there is a Facebook page for Turbo 1FZ's with almost 4000 members and the majority are from Australia. Haltech should have a plug and play for the Australian ECU though.

I also got a lot of the small parts needed to make the dual filler neck work for the aux tank. I received the bottom piece that allows you to switch between one tank to the other. But the actual filler neck is no longer available from Toyota. Going to see if I can source one in Colombia. I also got from Venezuela an all aluminum 32 Gallon Aux gas tank for the 80 series. My rig will be the guinea pig before I start offering these for sale. With all the added power (lol) gonna need some added fuel range. I plan to run a simple transfer pump from the aux to the main tank. Not sure if I want to go crazy and make it work with the JDM overhead console. I may end up going that route. Makes for a cleaner stock install.

30hp and 25tq. is a nice bump for these stump pullers. Id be curious to see the hp/tq curve graphs is anyone has them handy

Me too, especially with the significantly different intake manifold.

I have a 100 series with the updated 1FZ so I can answer any questions you might have.

Awesome @Bardiya I wonder what changed between the GCC 1FZ and the AU 1FZ. The GCC one has more HP. Any idea?

That torque curve looks dam flat compared to the previous one

Also looks to have moved further up RPM range. Might have a different cam?
