I am getting ready to install a new compete clutch system to include the master and slave cylinders. My slave cylinder bore is not in bad condition for a original 1982, nor was it seeping. I decided to replace the whole cylinder to balance the new system. Received the after market unit today ($30), and has some differences compared to the stock unit. It has been a few years since I have messed with slave cylinders but from the posted photos would anyone out there in MUD land use this unit (stock on left). New one shorter than stock, short push rod compared to stock, and is bore is smaller that stock. Wrong part?
Mount is the same. Listed as Clutch Slave Cylinder FJ40/45/60, 1981-85.

I am willing to bet the only difference is the length of the rod.

Use the rod that was being used with the original slave an call it done.

If you think the ID of the slave bores are different, put a caliper on them.

They look the same to me

I did check the bore and yes it is smaller than the other. Not sure on how this may affect the pressure on the system if Toyota thought out the system down to hydraulics PIS, IE smaller cly less foot pedal push.
I have not yet checked the depth of the cly travel.
Thanks

I have come across this several times with ordering slaves for my many 4* series cruisers IIR there is three different bore sizes in and around the 80-84 there may be some part # crossover with the early 60 models either way they seem to all work the smaller bore seem to be stiffer on the pedal than the large bore.
There should be a bore size casted on the side of the slave cylinder.
If you look on SOR's site they list all the different sizes for different years and models around that era under the slave cylinder parts list.

Thanks Dieseler for that information. I talked to a friend last night who use to work with Toyota as a mechanic and he says close to what you said. He also said with the influx of foreign parts coming into the US the makers of the parts do not hold in exterior design as they use to by standards, now it is as long as the mechanicals of the item work and mount up as he says. He himself and others have questioned parts while on the job, none the less used them with out problems.
The original has a stamp on the side three triangles and a 70, the new one has a S-8.
Poser, the mic measurements are -
stock bore opening-51/64, new-51/62
stock length-3" 59/64, new-3" 51/64
stock body width (round)-1"13/64, new 1"11/64

Probably can use it but like Dieseler said, the pedal pressure will be a little hard.
Thanks, good info.

All of the kits for a 40 series after 1966 are a 3/4" bore, which is what you have, love2fly...
