Just got back from a test drive with a small amount of advance and it ran better. I'll go a little more and try again but have to leave for now. I think this is the right track. Thanks to everybody!!! Had no idea you could go past the BB.
Elevation around 850ft above sea level. Valves adjusted recently and didn't make a difference. Sill need to pull the plugs but I put new ones in awhile ago and haven't driven it much. The gas is a little old but this problem has been there since...
I'll be using a timing light as well. As the timing changes does it change the vac as well or is that just rpm? Mine is low - around 17 and should be around 20.
I'm going to go at this slowly like you said and go for short trips.
If I advance the timing until I get 20+ vacuum do you think that could help with the hesitation problem I'm having? I never thought of going past the BB until the responses I received.
I think mine is an advance type but now I'm not sure. It does work because with the vac line hooked up and holding a timing light as I accelerate the motor the BB moves. The vac line from my dist. goes to the bottom of the carb facing the motor...
Vac at idle is 17. I think it's a little low. Sprayed carb cleaner all around and no rpm change. Stock distributor with new points, condenser and cap. Wires are almost new. I've played with timing a little but doesn't help. I think it's the carb...
Hi guys, it runs pretty good but hesitates on acceleration. No vacuum leaks, compression is good, timing light is steady on the BB. The carb came on it when I bought it and had it professionally rebuilt but something is off. I've been playing...
