i just installed a new clutch in my 1988 22RE 4runner it works great except I have to put the clutch all the way to the floor to shift, is there some sort of adjustment i can play with to fix this I saw some adjusting nuts on the clutch peddel but i did not want to mess with it untill i had gotten some input
Congrats, you have a new clutch....... You can adjust the clutch pushrod thing up under the dash. What you want to do is make it longer, but make sure your clutch slave cylinder doesn't start to to ride the clutch fork. EI make sure you still have free play between the slave and fork (Under the truck, on the pass side of the bellhousing).
If you just put it in, I mean like today or yesterday, you might want to give it a week or so of driving first. Mine loosened up quite a bit on its own in that time.
flushing the fluid is good as far as preventitive maintenence goes. that wont make the pedal tons better, but a good thing to do any way.
it is possible the clutch pedal bracket is cracked. a few simple welds will tighten it up.
like the rest said, just drive it and break it in.
checked the bracket seams to be fine with no cracks. I will bleed the clutch tomorow hasent been done in a few years. I did find one the cast bracket that bolts from the engine to the bellhousing was broken in half and by the looks of it it had been broken for some time luckely I had an extra one in my spare parts bin anyone of those have on of thes break?

never the bolt, seen broke, only seen stripper threads.
it is somewhat challanging to bleed the clutch, it does not bleed as easy as the brakes.
i reccomend you get, or take it to a shop, that utilizes a pneumatic/hydorolic pressure bleeder.
will be benificial.
glad to hear the bracket is in good shape.

I just did my clutch 2 wks ago, what you need to do :
1: get a self brake/clutch bleeder from harbor freight 15$ and it will take five min. by yourself.
2. Look under your dash, there should be a rod going through the firewall and clipped to the clutch pedal, it is absolutely necessary to andust this, consider it one of the final manditory clutch replacement steps. I start by turning the rod itself as far as it will go without loosing its connection to the pedal/ bracket. then slowly turn the rod opposite to pull it closur and go start the car and engage the cluthc. Then simply repeat as necessary. What your doing is changing your cluthes engangmen area to how you like it. How that helps
If it were mine, I would'nt ride it until it fixed or adjusted itself, You need to adjust the piston either on the slave cylinder or on the pedal bracket itself, You mention in your original post that it doesn't disengage until it hits the floor which means you may be causing alot of unnecessary wear on your disc. IIRC the clutch needs to disengage when the pedal is approximately 2/3 down.... just my . 02 but if I took the time to replace it I sure wouldn't want to have it fail prematurely...
i took out the drivers seat and layed down of the floor and adjusted the push rod only took about 5 min, works great now The transmission was out of anouther truck and the throwout bearing was slightly diffent so i thing that that played a role in me haveing to adjust the push rod
How many times did I winch last time we were out??? hmm... NONE! ...and how many times did i strap up your winch? enough times to say you were holding me up even though you were behind me
