Often times... but not always, after I come to a stop and go to accelerate again, I get a clunking noise from the rear of my 2000 LC. It is not the driveshaft clunking (I've lubed the d-shaft and fixed that)... it is when you step on the gas and the weight transfers to the rear of the LC, I hear/feel a clunk....

Opinions? Could the rear brakes be sticking and the clunking I hear/feel is them releasing as I accelerate? Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.... Nick

I just went through back breaks sticking. it waa a frozen bell crank. The noise i had on takeoff was more of a drag and vibration. the noise was like the noise you hear when you drive over the rumble strips on the side of the highway. I have a 2000 LX 470. good luck

This is a well known issue involving drive shaft lube. Search and ye shall receive. Good luck.

Newbie here, I have a 2006 LX470 and I have a similar problem. I've taken it to the dealer many times and they keep lubing the drive shaft with no success, as the problem still exists. What mine feels like is a small clunk with a slight rear end slippage feel (kind of like I'm going over a small speed bump), only happens at initial acceleration. Any help or suggestions out there would greatly be appreciated.

I have this problem on my work p/u. The slop..or clunk I feel is in the trans/transfer on mine..feels like it comes from under the bed but I think it's just a transfer from down the driveline...on mine anyway. Could be either that or the rear end on yours...also the clunk on my truck is worse when hot outside...very hot...it's enough to shake the truck sometimes!

The 200 series has had the same issue. Toyota in OZ will regreased the propeller shaft. You really need to remove the shaft from the car to complete the regreasing correctly.

I was driving over Mt. Hood today and I approached a semi truck. I slowed down to about 50 mph then I gunned it but I noticed a clunk/hard shift and not the normal sling shot effect or the smooth transmission shift. However after the clunk the engine ran smooth. There was no Check Engine Light or any shudder just a big clunk. I have a automatic. Has anybody experienced this?

i have a chunk in my transmission. when going about 55 and let off the gas, then quickly put it back on, it feels like the tension has gone on everything, then all of a sudden comes back. it makes the whole truck shutter and a booming bass through it. Its like there is play in the driveshafts. Ive checked everything out, and you have to make it do it. it doesnt do it by its self, unless your in a parking lot and constantly on/off the throttle. sort of what melfeliFJ described.

Yup, that is exactly it... what seems like a small clunk and rear end slippage... I guess I will remove the entire drive shaft, take it apart and relube it thoroughly... I'll check on the U-joints too... they sound like a good source for this problem also...

Have you taken it in or anything? If so what did they recommend? Mine has happened twice to me. So it does not happen often. I just want to know if it is a normal characteristic of Toyota's/Lexus.

I had it lubricated. Front and rear. And it still does it. Not as bad though. It feels like there is play in the trannsmission I had it on the highway today. I was recreating the clunk all the time. By doing this: 65mph on cruise control-throttle down with hand stalk, then go up using the hand stalk. Mine will raise about 200rpm then I hear a clunk and start accelerating. I would hope a truck of this quality would not make such obtrusive banging. It would probably wake up the family on a road trip. At stop lights I get a vibration and bass. I put it in N now when it gets bad. Ill try to shoot a video and post it on YouTube for you to see what I'm talking about. Sorry for any spelling. The iPhone is a very annoying smudgy device to type on.

That would be cool if you posted it on Youtube. Let me know when you do.

Alright guys. Here's what happened. I beleive I have a legit transmission issue. I was at a drive through today and my rear wheels started to "chunk" like the cdl was locked. But it wasn't.... I was wondering why, no lights or anything. So I got my food and pulled out and took a 90* right ( drive through was a double right style) and the cdl unlocked. It wasn't a normal "clunk".not at all! It was so loud that I thought somebody hit it from behind. The binding was so bad that it shook the truck and launched me forward I spilled my drink and fries went everywhere. My heart stopped. I thought my diff blew. A grinding niose went on for about 10 ft after it clunked... I drove around the parking lot and did a few figure 8's in D and in R. Everything seemed OK. But wow, it really was loud. it scared my friend really bad and he was talking about it for a few hours. I'm taking I to the stealership and getting it all looked at.

Ill post back anything I find. I checked for oil or an leakage but couldn't see underneath. It's too dark. Ill look tommorow
