Thoughts on having certain items present before a club sanctioned event can take place?

I was thinking about the trip to Tellico during MLK when we didn't have a snatch block to rescue a stranded vehicle. And since I'm the safety guy it's time for me to start doing my job.

Maybe we should have a list of things necessary for 4x4 outings.

1. First Aid Kit
2. Emergency contact for each member
3. tow strap
4. tree saver
5. snatch block
6. winch
7. cell phone
8. handheld radio
9. cb
10. water
11. Hi lift
12. Who knows Emergency rescue

What else?

I personally think that every driver should be required to have #8. There are many in the club like myself who have more than one for those who don't have them. But a count of who does and who doesn't before the trip might be a good idea.

#1 should be required for any group and at least have one for every five vehicles partaking in an event. Or one very large one.

#2 should be required. If you get injured on the trail. I would think you would want us to call someone. At least two people should have this list.

#3 Should be required and at least two for more than ten vehicles

#4 If your winching from a tree you have to have one. We are not here to tear up the environment.

#5 this should be required and more than one if more than ten vehicles.

#6 it's no necessary but would be very nice. A come-a-long or Hi-lift (#11) would work but at least one of something per 5 vehicles.

#7 at least one per 5 vehicles. (I don't see this being a problem)

#8 this one device has proven to be a life saver as well as a time saver. Nothing worse than a bunch of people yelling out there windows at each other. If you have a loud vehicle like mine I'd suggest an earphone to hear what everyone is saying.

#9 I have no idea on this one but some other clubs use them and I think they are a requirement for GSMTR. Something to discuss.

#10 I have no idea how much but Alex usually carries 5 gallons with him at all times. I'm pretty sure we cannot live without water nor our cruisers.

#11 discussed in the #6 items. It seems every time we go out wheeling we use one of these things.

#12 If i was in trouble on the trail I would like the person most qualified for the job to help me. If we know peoples qualifications before the event we have a better chance of surviving an accident. Last thing I want to hear if I'm having a heart attack is "Does someone here know CPR?"

These are just ideas and nothing is set in stone without David's and Alex's approval. So punch some holes in this guys.

I'm big on number 9 versus 8 for range.

Good Idea Marshall

Add fire extenquisher, functioning parking brake, lights,
horn, decent tire tread, full size spare and seatbelts.
Tags and Insurance too.
Each member should have as much recovery/safety gear
as possible for their own sake.
Winch for example is optional. Brakes, lights, tires
and insurance are not. :grinpimp:
I wheel with all of the mentioned items but also spares and tools
too. I carry a field surgery kit with my first aide.
You are right to keep safety foremost in our concerns.
Thanks for the reminder. You can't be over prepared.

If we want I can see about setting up a CPR class for the whole club. Not sure what it would cost but I know who to contact to get a class set up. For about 10 years runnin I was certified in CPR and First Aid...last cert was about 2 years ago. Pretty easy and straight forward stuff plus ya feel alittle better once you're done with the class. Just let me know.

At GSMTR, one of our FLCA members is a paramedic and brings a good jump bag. He has used it several times with mishaps that have occurred to our group and others.

CPR mask is a good thing and the CPR classes are cheap thru the Red Cross.

I carry 4 family radios and give them out during for all to use on our daily rides. They are great for trail rides as well as when we caravan on the highway.

, functioning parking brake, QUOTE]

what are those, neither one of my cruisers have one

Ouch! When are you the "help a member out" designee?
Oh, that's right the 40 is in downtime. :(
Parking brake is REQUIRED at ALL TLCA events, including GSMTR.
Emergency/parking brake can be pretty handy. ;)
Beats wheel chocks, even though I carry those too. :)
That 62 has a park position and most accept that as a "brake".
Although shifting into park in an emergency
can be tough on a parking pawl.

well the 62 will have new axles under it before long so that will remedy the problems there, and the 40 has a new parking brake thanks to marshall, just have to get it running and try it out :D......... if marshall is the safety man I would say either me or chuck should be the anti-saftey man  :flipoff2:

What are you talking about? You were Mr. Safety last weekend!

When you winched yourself out of that hole at Cullowhee you were smart enough to duck behind the dash as you climbed out! :D

And, weren't you the one who demanded my t-shirt be used as a winch cable damper as you winched every one else out??? ;)
