Hey Everyone! We're investigating the idea of building a RTI ramp with club funds to have at at our events! We wanted to put this post out there to see if there was much interest in building one.

An RTI, or Ramp Travel Index, ramp is a device that is used to quantify the amount of articulation that a vehicle has, under controlled circumstances. It can be used to measure total wheel travel, check for areas of improvement in your suspension, check for binding points, measure for shocks. Finally, you can calculate your RTI score and it becomes a competition of sorts :grinpimp:

For more details:

If there is sufficient interest, then a ramp will be built to spec by members of the club and will need to be brought to and from events, as well as stored in-between events. I have no problem storing it at my house, but it would be ideal to find a location closer to the center of the state to store it.

The result would be something close to this (except with land crusiers on it):

So, what do we think? Would this be something that the club wants and would use? I forsee it being used mostly at Logan's Run, but also at the Barn if @alk747triodad allows us to :D

Let me know what you think!!

Can we make this thread into a poll/vote?

why not??
most of the other guys that have been in the club a long time will remember the one we used to have. Was a pretty fun thing to break out. Can't remember what ever happened to it.

Have any pics of the old club RTI ramp? I was unaware that there used to be one.

Yeah, it was pretty funny. I think I have a pic floating around somewhere. @southerncruiser62 put it together from some scrap at work IIRC with some help from others. Let's just say we didn't put a whole lot of time into it, but it was fun while it lasted. I think it wound up back at the scrapyard at TR Vernel - Greg can confirm. At any rate, we always talked about improving it or scrapping altogether and starting over. We have the funds and the know how to do it right now.

I can see how this would be fun for club events.

My interest would be in building it. If the club decides to go through with it we could have an RTI HAMOM.

For those thinking about safety concerns with using a device like this, RTI ramp runs stop when a tire lifts off the ground. This is because the measurements used to calculate your RTI score are taken with all four tires on the ground, which is well before the vehicle tips over. As such, RTI ramp runs are done with selectable lockers set to OFF, or if you have auto-lockers, you stop as soon as a tire barely comes off the ground.

A spotter will ALWAYS be used to ensure that the ramp is used in a safe manner.

there were a bunch more.pics on the old website but . They must have been lost when it was taken down. I cant seem to find any of mine from that day.

I always thought they were cool. I just never really had the desire to get on one.

Only 11 votes so far, but almost 70 people in the club. Cast your votes!!

I don't care either way, but do not wish to influence the poll. Useful tool if you are looking to improve the articulation of your rig and want to see the interaction of parts.

I can't believe people aren't all over this. We had a BLAST with this thing at the farm back in the day, and it wasn't perfectly, errr, safe. A nice one that is safe could yield a lot of good laughs and useful for suspension setup/testing.

Another club I used to belong to had an RTI ramp and we used it at almost every event we had. It was really cool to test and compare various lift setups. That and the RTI competitions were pretty cool too. I am all for an RTI ramp.

Unless, as I have seen happen twice, the driver gets scared or excited and dumps the clutch at the top of the ramp. I can guarantee you that if you roll your rig on a ramp, nobody will let you live it down

And no, it was not me who did that. I did participate in the unending grief to the point that one person's CB handle was changed to reflect it - ole flop.

But an old rig I had would easily hit 1000 on a 23* ramp ...

BTW, poll does not work on the iPhone app.

I don't see the poll on the mobile version of the site. Somebody pencil me in as a YES until I can get to a computer (next week).

Thanks,

Dave
