A couple of members thought it would be nice if the club had a generator for some of it's event's. I thought I would throw it out there and see what everyone thinks. Something quiet, has good power, compact, and inexpensive.

My problem is what do we use it for?

Besides OTMT I couldn't see a use for it. Am I missing something?

If we buy something it has to be usable at least 4 times a year and benifit more than a half dozen members. That is why I have had a hard time buying a tubing bender. Since not everyone will benefit from it.

Thoughts

We could have used it up at Cullowhee to watch your football games :)

I think it may be a good idea...

and there is a good game this year in Cullowhee (UGA spanks Fla - for the first time in god knows how long!)

If you decide to go that route (and depending on size) we can get some pretty good deals on Generac and Briggs.

Good idea, Dan. You're onto something here. The October Pig Run is coming up, future opportunities exist. Business justification 101. ROI, TCO, Dan has it covered. :D

The challenge will be which fans get to watch their game / team if schedules conflict. I am sure we can find a resolution on-site though...

Either way, I think it is a good item for the club to have. In.

Your optimism is commendable Steen, I would certainly root for this outcome!!

On another note, what size are we talking Marshall??

For camping purposes, you don't need a big one. Perhaps 1000-1500 watts.

If you want to keep it quiet, you can't beat the small Honda generators.

These are really quiet and dependable. The smaller ones are enough for some camp lighting and TV. Good for coffee in the AM, too. (I guess good for a blender in the PM, also...)

I know Lab601 was hoping to keep his Engel charged overnight with a generator at OTMT, but the juice was pretty much used up by the TV, lights & fans. It was great to be able to use HercDriver's at OTMT, but I don't think he'll make it to Cullowhee in the rolling palace!

I was thinking about a 1000 watt one. Something very portable, Quiet.

Might look on e-bay.

Thinking long term.

You will have a hard time getting parts or service on the McCulluch.

Yanahas are a good. Most Yamaha's are sold by boat dealerships who cater to the Yamaha engines. Very few serviceing dealers here on the left coast. A lot of places sell them but few service them correctly.

You can find the Honda that you specified for around $700.00 on sale here on the left coast.
If you decide you need more generator in the future you can plug two EU1000's together.

I was thinking about a 3 way portible fridge/freezer to keep food nice and cold when we have group cookouts.
