Hey all,
Anyone have good tips/tricks to cleaning up the OEM part ID stickers when you are restoring a part? I don’t want to accidentally scrape/scrub all the paint off.
Thanks!

I’ll frame this another way. Anyone know of a safe solvent to use on them or one to avoid? I’m cleaning up an alternator and part of the sticker has some kind of tar splattered on it. Would love to get it off but don’t want to accidentally use something too harsh. Thanks

Trader Joes sells an all purpose spray cleaner, green in color. Extremely mild. I use it all around the house, kitchen and bath and also on sensitive areas on the old cars. Then, once dry I use a vinyl preservative I buy from the local detail supply shop.

Thanks @scoutingranch and @oregon fj for the cleaner advice! I ordered a bottle of the stuff you suggested Oregon fj.
You can see the tar over the label:

After some gentle cleaning of the sticker and a wire wheel on the alt body its looking much better:

Were these alternators painted silver or just raw aluminum with a black painted center stripe?
