Cleaning my ABS sensors when (real time help needed)

There's another way to get in there faster, and I wish I were the originator of this because it's darn clever. Hope I get it right 'cause I have no idea where I read this.

You can pull the entire spindle/wheelbearing/axle off merely by removing the 3 piece axle seals, and pulling the knuckle bearings. Obviously the caliper or a brake line has to come off as well, but then you can pull the entire assembly off.

Someone either mentioned this or did it as a trail fix. Whomever you are, step forward.

The only fly in the ointment here is that the ABS sensor may hit the birf when you try to pull the axle out to access the broken sensor. This is likely why it broke - was probably stressed and cracked by previous service.

Pull that square plug out and go in with a flat blade screw drive or other and pry up on the ABS tip while you work it from the top also.

I was thinking the same thing. This is worth a try.

alright guys I got the ABS sensor out today. It was probably this one that was throwing me the code too as it was covered in about a half inch of grease. Now, how do I take care of this hole? I need to make sure no dust, grime, or water gets in so my birfields dont suffer here. Should I use the original sensor and just devise a way to plug it up?

The tip should be covered in grease. The knuckle is full of grease and the tip of the ABS sensor sits inside the knuckle.

You can use the broken end to act as a plug for the hole in the knuckle, just make sure there's nothing else on it that might fall of an into the knuckle.

Thats exactly what I did. I gave it a decent coating in silicone to act as a sealant to keep water out and bolted it back in place. Im pretty happy I got this done and dont have to worry about it anymore.

I ended up putting a pair of pliers in the middle of it and forcing them out making a reverse pinch effect and forced it upward. It came out about 3/4 way and I had to wiggle and pull the rest of the way for it to come out. But its out now and the hole is sealed and im safe from danger. or at least I think. Hopefully this holds up. Ill try and get a pic tomorrow.
