Coke Ovens/Martinez Cabins 1-2-05

Putting together an impromptu run for Sunday the 2nd of January. Meeting at the Gas station North of US 60 and Tomahawk Road 7:00AM Meet time. 7:45 roll out. We will then travel to the Price road turnoff on the north side of the rail road tracks in Florence, where we will continue through Box Canyon and and on to the Coke Ovens. After a short spell at the Coke ovens and maybe a quick jaunt down to the Gila River we will track back to the Martinez Canyon and Cabins. If time and or vehicles permit we may continue on to the Tool Shed or beyond. This will be a full day of wheeling. Bring your lunch and provisions. Plan on wet weather with a chance for sunshine. Hope tp see ya there. Feel free to post here if you are planning on attending.

Not sure on the trail rating but we've taken stock Tacomas back on more than one occasion.

A Cike oven is exactly the same as a Coke oven 'cept it's just spelled wrong. (Note the edit)

Here is what it looked like when it was all over :flipoff2:

John in the past I would just drop down from the ovens and follow the river to the crossing. This time we went up and around and down to the river with little time following the river. The brush was not bad but there is some.

Is that area by the Gila River still super brushy?

YES! Wouldn't want to scratch up that nice rig of yours ;)

We were expecting a much deeper river crossing than what we got. All in all another great day of wheeling. A good friend of mine (Seth) brought out his new Grand Cherokee for his first wheelin adventure. He called last night after we got back to let me know that he had a great time. I was stoked for him since this was his first real wheelin. Can't wait to get him out in the rocks.

Thanks Kevin and Phil for finally helping me turn the Cruiser/Jeep factor in my favor.

We had a great time! Need to spend more time down there, loads of cool trails. Overcast day made for flat pictures, but here are a few, if anyone has anymore Kyle or I can put them up.
