I replaced my lighter receptacle (blown fusible link, I think) but now the receptacle pulls out about halfway. Is there a trick to keeping it in place? What did I do wrong? The FSM didn't shed any light (probably because it's such a simple repair that only a moron could botch it up...:o ) I don't need the lighter, but I do plug in various items and need to remove and re-plug easily. More importantly, now that it's loose I'm concerned that I don't stress the wires and cause a real problem. Thanks in advance!

sounds like the big stamp nut backed off or came off completely,

pull off the surround arround the AC/radio and take a look, when you get an eyeball on it you will find the problem.

I broke the snap in place nub and ended up using electrial tape to hold it in place. So far so good. :smokin: ;)

I replaced mine with a thread style socket with cover. Cut the factory plug, crimp on new ends, plug and play.

When I bought mine the PO said that the cigarette lighter was broken but "Just has to be put back together right" I put it back together in order and thought I was done but soon after it came apart again when I removed my cell phone charger one day. Perhaps I bette take another look.

I bought my rig two years ago with the cigarette lighter in a similar state.I tried to fix a couple times, but it was old and somewhat poorly constructed.

IMO I think the cigarette lighter and antenna mast are two of the only somewhat fragile parts on this vehicle.

I went to West Marine and bought a heavy duty socket-style one and installed in about 1 hour. It looks better than the old one, fit right in the hole and has never given me any problems like the old one did. It has a lot more metal in its construction than the factory one.

Only "problem" is it is no longer lighted around the edge like the factory one, if thats a concern.

Good Luck.

I have learned to use the two handed method when removing the plug from the lighter, one hand to hold the p.o.s. lighter in place while the other hand removes the plug.
One of these days I'll get around to replacing it.

Never realized that so many others had this same problem... this is a real pain that it seems to be a bad design. I will follow this thread for more solutions.

Did my second one recently, no issue with the recepticle. I agree with Raven, pull the cover and give it a good look.

I just use one of the three other power points in the center console when the lighter irritates me :)
