What does the electrical part of the choke do? I need a new one and was debating whether or not I need the stock toyota cable assembly? Or if I could use an inexpensive basic cable that you can buy at any parts store?

The electrical stuff on the choke cable by the choke knob is what I am wondering about. Is the electrical stuff just for the choke light on the dash or does it have something to do with the operation of the choke?

The wires are just the light. The choke operation is only mechanical.

thanks 60wag. I'm just curious what makes the stock toyota choke cable worth $60? How does it differ from just a regular generic cable? If at all?

Yea, my '82 didn't have the light. My '84 does - I think '83 had it. Other than that, there is nothing speacial about the cable.
