I like the support idea. Looks like you found the same kind of shaft collars that I used in my shifters, so did you find a good little hardware store?

Hey Boots,
Yes I did! Funny how that made all the difference, finding the right combination of pieces. I opted to go with bronze washers in lieu of nylon for durability as well between the shifters.
Last night, I got everything welded in, the excess steel cut off and am well into the 4wheel in and out started. Ill post pics when Im done. Ive gotta work on my daughters 4 runner today, but Ill get a LITTLE time before.

Gonna go pick up some knobs this AM!

Ill be VERY HAPPY to put this part behind me, at least until I find I have to change something if I do. This took a LOT LONGER than I had anticipated.

Thanks for all the help and support!

Glad I could help and glad you found a place. A decent little hardware store can be an idea generator.

You're definitely getting the experience of why it takes so long to get these rigs done; these little things add up. It's been almost 3 years on my rig and I still have things I'm doing but boy have I learned a ton! Keep up the good work.

Shifters are finally DONE!:bounce::bounce2::bounce::bounce2:

Still gotta do the actual 3/8 rod ill be using etc and get everything painted and such, but theyre in and Im happy with the set up.
Ended up welding a tab on the 4 wheel mechanism. It was just easier and more certain to stay put.
Got my shift knobs today as well! Now Ive gotta build the trans hump!

OOOOOH yeah!
This was a real challenge for me to get it set up a way that I like it.
I was anticipating this part of the build since I started, and Im happy that it pretty much over with.

Thanks for checkin out the thread and chimin in!

gongrats looks great, so are going to start on the wiring next?

OOOOH NO!
Still a ways away form that!
Im gonna get the trans hump/ floor board finished, get the seating squared and the fuel tank situation completed FIRST, then move on to the rest of more straight forward stuff. For me, this is the more complicated part of the build that requires a GREAT DEAL of thought and consideration to do right since there are a LOT of details that really demand attention and affect the long term COMFORT for both me and my wife/ passenger.
That, and Im OCD and CAN NOT let these naggin issues go for the time.
After that is squared away, Ill do the SOA and suspension stuff, THEN pull everything back out, paint and body finish and THEN Ill start on the wiring and plumbing and such. At least that is the plan NOW! That always seems to change!

So it looks like shift lever position is:

203 H is back, L is forward
Tcase H is back, L is forward
2wd is forward, 4wd is back

Note: If you want to reverse the 2/4wd position just move that extension piece above the pivot bolt.

Those aluminum knobs look great. Maybe you could have them engraved to show shift position.

Correct on all positions!
That 4wd lever is only like a one inch throw...Not much to it, and hardly no effort at all.

That is a great idea on the engraving the handles! I didn't think of that! I wont do the final bends and such till I get the trans hump built.

Do you see anything that might be wrong or a potential complication? With it not running and all, I hope that everything functions well. I actually think it will shift easier when everything is turning.

I think all I'd have is stipulation/theory when really the linkage just needs to be tested on the trail now to see how it actually works. Then you'll really know if it will work how you want it. I like how the linkage is all straight shots. That should give it a more direct feel.

You really set that up so that the only time the shifters are in a group is when you are in 4wd hi?

Also, remember that you will have to put the Tranny in Park before you switch from low range to high range (either of them) 2wd/4wd you can do on the fly (if the hubs are rolled)

Yes on the grouping...Why, what do you see as the issue there with the shifters being equal positioning in normal driving conditions?
If I need to change something, I wanna do it now. Actually, when both t cases are in LOW they will be in forward position too?

That is a good tip on the PARK. I didnt know that bit of info.

I'm confused on the park thing.
As near as I recall I could shift H/L in neutral or park on my GMC. I know the UZJ100 is the same way.

It's just me, I like having all three shifters lined up when you are driving down the street in 2wd hi.

It looks like you will only have the shifters in a line during 4wd High and 2wd low.

There is nothing wrong with it at all. It'd just annoy me. :meh:

It's possible to start spinning the tailshaft on the tcase even in neutral. That is amplified by the auto. It's possible that he may not have this problem, I know I do. Hell, if I put either Tcase in Neutral, I have to turn the car off to get the parts to stop spinning in the tranny.

Oh...okay. I get what youre saying. No, that is not accurate. I set them all up so they will be situated in line while in normal street drving (2WD).

I was thinking that you saw some major fault in the line up!

You sure about that? In the pic above are all of the levers in the forward position?
