Yes, I pulled everything because I got a rebuilt kit so I pulled the front to replace the seal and a bearing if I remember right. I hit mine with a pressure washer, engine bright, and even a wire wheel but it didn't get it nice and clean. Try the easy route first and maybe a pressure washer will get it clean. 20 yrs of grease just laughed at mine.

I picked up a kit from Daves off road Perfomance, so I guess that Ill be pulling it too.

Oven cleaner works well on parts like that. Pressure wash it off after letting it sit for a while...

RustyTLC had used the oven cleaner too. I just keep forgetting to pick some up.

Thanks for the tips!

I used oven cleaner and a little brake clean with a stiff brush in the nooks and crannies. Took it over to the quarter wash to finish up.
My transmission looked like brand new, you could even see the original part number stenciled in white on the side.

Be careful with the oven cleaner on aluminum, it's okay to use just don't let it sit to long.

i could stop by and pick up the cases for your tcase and put them in are parts washer at work for a couple of hours, they should clean up pretty good

Went to town the the oven cleaner which worked like a CHARM!
That stuff is the BEST for this duty. Took a couple of hours (3) to get it all cleaned, but its done!

Now I need to find a press to get that input shaft OUT so I can paint and get to assembling the 2 cases.

How to do that on a Saturday!?!?!?!?!?!

If anyone is local and has one short notice, gimme a call

Split case is cleaned and painted!
Discovered that I need the DAMN ROLLER BEARINGS that go on the output shaft of the 203!!!!!!:bang::crybaby:
Gotta track those down before I can mate this s*** up and get it back together.

If anyone knows of a good source...post it up!

Here are the pics.

Blue... Looks great!

Thanks!
That is about what the color she will be when all is said and done!
Cant stray too far away from the original (blotch rig).

It never ceases to amaze me what a little elbow grease and some paint will do to otherwise ratty old stuff.

I LOVE THIS HOBBY!

Maybe you could beat it out. Set the O/P gear on the vise with the shaft between the jaws and whack it until it pops out.

Damn that sounds pretty nasty when I read it back.:o

I actually ended up taking it to Les Schwab in desperation.
They did it for me and didnt charge a thing!

Despite their prices...theyre a good bunch over there.

Now I need to find a bearing for the 203...Dont need the whole kit. Napa had nothing.

What bearing exactly do you need? I have a 203 that I won't be using anytime soon, It may have what you want. The only thing it does not have is the input gear.

Edit: Bearing kit for the range box available here: http://www.northwestfab.com/rebuild.html

Scrolll down. That would get you all new bearings.

Bustanutly,
I spent a better part of the day yesterday googling the PN...What I DIDNT realize is that the number is ON THE BEARING that was still neatly hidden under the FAWKING snap ring that was a BEOTCH to get off.
Anyway...I called the local drive line shop, tooke the bearings down and the owner looked at em and said..."we never need to replace these things." He took the main output shaft bearing in the back and looked at it a bit closer, put some oil on it and said "this things fine. Id run it." SOOOO. Im gonna run it.

SOOOO, I got that DANM FAWKING snap ring back on, and started to reassemble and came up with some questions to hit Boots up with regarding this process since he is the ONLY one I know of who has done this exact mod.

Im going on my 3rd week OFF from the gym because Im OBSESSED at this point with this part of the build. Getting smaller every day, but I JUST CANT STOP!

Good news!

Yeah I though it looked like you were wasting away last time I saw you. You have that whole Barney Fife look going on.

Pretty soon I wont be able to lift a wrench.

Im actually finding the reassembly of this set up to be quite a challenge. ONE, for the 203 assembly, there is basically NOTHING for instructions. Ive called Jerry a couple of times for clarification on some items and he's helped my out that way...
Ive got the 203 shaft in place, the adapter and bearing set and sealed with great stuff permatex, then I got ALL CONFUSED.
In reading the FSM, it says that there is a PTO gear that is supposed to go on the input shaft coming from the trans? THEN I start panicking...."did I have that, pull it off and misplace it?" "NO!"
So can anyone tell me that the PTO gear DIDNT come on all the split cases? It seems that the sequence goes (from the front half of the split case) the input gear, then a 2 in spacer, then the bearing, then the nut...
I looked at Boots's pics, and that looks like what he had as well, but Im second guessing myself.

Ive been taking pics and will detail this part of the build for future reference as there are very few who have done this here.

IIRC there is a blanking plate on the side of the case that would be removed to add a PTO device. You should be able to pull that off and see if the PTO gear is there. If it isn't needed to act as a spacer you night be okay without it.

AYE!
the t case is apart....
So if Im correct, then not ALL the wagons had the PTO drives?
Everything lines up without it given the spacer length that I have and the thickness of the bearing, Im just worried that my tiny little pea brain isnt remembering that I took it off or not. I dont THINK SO. I took each piece off and set in sequence on the bench, but...Ive been known to do some stupid things before!

NEVER MIND!!!!!!

Im an IDIOT!
