There was a bad batch. No recall, but BFG has been replacing them for folks with the cracking issue:

BFG KO2 Cracking at 10k

Not gonna lie, I put 30k on mine in a year, if they cracked I'm not sure I'd even have noticed.

Is the tread actually breaking off, or just cracking?

Just little cracks. Appears it's just a bad batch of KO2s. I had KOs that cracked...after 5 years and 80K miles! These are cracking at 2K-10K miles.

The tiny cracks you are talking about Nolen is not what others are reporting.

The more natural rubber (good to have) is more susceptible to UV damage which causes micro (cosmetic) cracking.

You will not find a Michelin tire that doesn't have those cracks on the tread shoulder. Price you pay to have one of the best tires on the market.

I can't imagine crying about those tiny lines in my tires.

you need to come hang out here for a week or two. you would be amazed what people cry about....

I put them on right before Thanksgiving last year. They've been wheeling exactly once (Katemcy), and lots of city/highway miles before and after. So, my earlier comment was not based on firsthand fact, but I've chewed tires up before at that park.
