A bit of history on this one of a kind truck:
This truck comes from Honduras Central, America. I personally drove it up this spring. Therefore, it has never seen a winter in it's entire life! And because it's from Central America, it is left-hand drive! Most of these Land Cruisers that are imported are right-hand drive. So this one is truly rare and there's no learning curve to driving it.
The body is in excellent condition. Underneath is excellent also. The interior is in mint condition too. Everything works in the truck.
The truck is fully registered in Canada. Taxes paid, ready to be enjoyed by the next owner.

Details of the truck:

Exterior

* 3.0 liter turbo-diesel engine (great fuel economy)
* 5 speed manual transmission with manual locking hubs
* 2" Old Man Emu suspension lift
* 265/70/17 Michelin tires with about 70% tread left
* 17" Toyota FJ Cruiser rims (spare is full size FJ rim also)
* full size custom made safari rack with rear access ladder
* new glow plugs
* rust proofed when brought to Canada
* bull bar on front with factory yellow fog lamps
* All fluids have been changed
* new brakes in rear. Fronts have lots of life left
* All new tie-rods in front (x4)
* new steering stabilizer
* new sway bar bushings

Interior

* Seats 10 people with rear jump seats down. (jump seats would require seat belts if used.
* Sony MP3 deck with Aux & USB input
* Pioneer speakers
* A/C blows super cold
* Engine Watchdog temperature gauge. (monitors engine head temperature) more info: ENGINE WATCHDOG TM2, Engine Temperature Sensor and Low Coolant Alarm
* Windows have "Clear Guard" window security film installed. more info: Clear Guard Caribbean - Window Security Film
* Power windows & locks
* Altimeter, inside and outside temperature displays

Imperfections:

* The body has a few scratches and chips. (to be expected with a truck of this age) There's also a couple small spots of rust that can easily be repaired. One along the lower section of the windshield about 4" long. The other along the seam by the rear passenger door.
* The driver's seat has a seam tear about 5" long. This can be sewn back together.

As I mentioned, this truck is truly one of a kind. More more information on the 70 series Land Cruisers and how tough they are, check out this: Toyota Land Cruiser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please, this is a serious truck so I will only entertain serious inquiries. No tire kickers, thank you. Low-ballers will be ignored.

1994 Toyota Land Cruiser KZJ77 turbo diesel - Must See!!! LHD!!!

The guy want $16,500

Can anyonw confirm if these are legal in the United States?

Based on the year model I would say no however every State differs so nothing is etched in stone............1978HJ45

Whether being leagal for the US has nothing to do with States. It is the US department of Transportation and the US EPA that has to bless it. Importation is regulated by the Federal Gov. not state gov.

OK, so if it is not legal in the United States, can one enter the US with this vehicle for a short period.

16.5 for a time bomb. No thanks.
You can find other funny prados going for about 12 which is outragous.
Spend 18 and buy yourself an hzj77.

wait it will be more with all the other fun stuff you will have to do to it.
Say 25

Not necessarily............There are at least a half dozen late model Land Rover Defender 110's running around the streets of my hometown. All of which have legal Georgia titles. I would venture to say this would not have happened in say, California. There are some States in this fine Union that have an independent streak. ..............1978HJ45

Generally we Americans are a friendly bunch....you and your vehicle would certainly be welcome. ............1978HJ45

It really makes no sense that a vehicle is not legal or not allowed to be owned but I can enter the US with it.

Make no sense at all.

looks slick though, Not going to like.
Why do prados have to have a not so good engines.
I haven't really heard fxxx ups with 1kz to be honest.

Read the official gov guide to importation. Anyone can drive any vehicle into the US for a temporary time. If it has not been imported for permanent residence(?) you are suppose to take it back out with you or destroy it.
Yes, you can import newer than 25yr old vehicles, but it will most likely cost more than what most people will be willing to pay for. For instance the G500's that Europa International (or what ever they where called) did with the G500. Look at what they cost back in the late 90's early 2000's compared to when Mercedes officially imported them in 2002. Basically any imported vehicle newer than 25 yrs old needs to prove it meets EPA standards for the model year. If it is 20yrs or newer it needs to meet all Applicable DOT standards for that model year. Some vehicles are easier to conform than others. If you bring something in that has not had prior approval then you will most likely need to import two, one to be crashed to see if it meets applicable DOT crash standards. Anyway, read the importation rules. This has got nothing to do with state rules, you got to get it past the customs and they will want proof of conformity before letting it go. Now there are some peoples that get creative in finding ways to import vehicles without doing all the mentioned above. It is up to each person as to what risk they wish to take on if/when they get caught with a non-approved/imported vehicle. I don't know how some of these non-Us market 70 series get into the US with legal title except for Canadian market BJ-70, of which I purchased one. No, it was not my dream 70 series but it was imported legally without costing me a lot of time and extra money.
With that I am done.
Nice rig though.

To be perfectly clear......The information that "coldtaco" is giving you is most likely 100% correct. All I am saying is that there are vehicles in the U.S. ( LJ78's, BJ74's, Defender 110's etc.) that probably were not brought in with the blessing of the federal government however they are recognized as 100% legal by the individual States where they reside. I would venture to say that every other State ( with the possible exception of California) would recognize the registration and title issued by these States. Am I saying that you should attempt this....NO.
Am I saying it can be done....ABSOLUTELY.

"Crushers" must be in the bed with the flu....This subject matter (Prados) usually draws him like a moth to a night light. :):)

first,
that truck will be grey market at best, illegal at worst owned in the States...
(but like anything, there are ways around the legal system)
you can have it in the states for up to 1 year then it has to leave (and come back if you want)
the KZ is starting to show its weaknesses but the numbers are low enough still not to hit the radar.

the KZ has wicked power for its size.
the KZ returns "decent" fuel mileage

i wasn't going to say anything since he is trying to sell it ... best of luck in the sale

There is the same truck here in Ottawa but RHD, he passes me doing about 140 almost every day, beautiful truck. I'd drive that model here in Ontario and not be concerned with engine issues.

Good luck with the sale - nice truck!

Well I'd say a good test of the head would be to drive it in Honduras for about 15 years, way hotter and more mountains than Ontario, that would be a great test- oh wait it just came from Honduras.

Like I said, I would drive one of those trucks, not the same record as your ljs.

Just curious, is there a cruiser that has no inherent flaws from birth?? From what I have heard and seen when a problem occures with a cruiser you need to get the cheque book out and talk to the bank. Of course mine is no exception.
