R.E. our Saturday gravel round up. Let's plan on meeting at the Stripes on the south side of Llano (on Hwy 71) by 9:30 and roll out of there no later than 10:00am. We can all top off with fuel there for the trip.

We can then run the north loop of gravel up and over to Mason where we can pick up Cooper's BBQ take-out and then eat on the gravel beach where the James and Llano Rivers intersect. From there, people wanting a half-day only, could return via 29 to Llano and then either continue on 29 if they live in Round Rock area or jog over to 71 to return to Lakeway/South and Central Austin.

The North Loop will contain Fly Gap Road (lots of little water splashes and a super scenic wide-open pasture view), Spillar Mine Road (runs along a narrow ridgeline with views far off to both the east and west).

The South Loop will contain the James River Crossing (ALWAYS popular....12-16" max depth and 250 yards to cross....can be 6" deep if you track along the extreme right side....all rock bottom so no traction issues), the Bat Caves (really cool dike crossing and HUGE rock formations), Threadgill Creek Rd (LOTS of little water splashes) and Loyal Valley Rd (several crossings of the dry Sandy Creek).

Generally take it pretty easy and enjoy the scenery and being away from the house. If you have a CB or even HAM or GMRS, please bring it. I will have CB, HAM and GMRS capability along with 2 handheld GMRS talkies (if anyone needs to borrow them).

If we roll out of Llano by 10am, we should arrive in Mason for lunch around 12:30. From there, if you do the south loop with us, you should expect to arrive back in Llano around 4-4:30.

It's a super fun and scenic route. No need for low range and you'll never need to engage lockers (including your center diffs) at any point. It's about 95% gravel the entire way. There are a few very short bitumen sections connecting the route, but we can easily remain aired down the entire way. I generally recommend airing down to something below 30psi to make the ride more comfortable. I run 22psi front/25psi rear for reference.

Hit me up on PM if you have any questions or text me. My name is Gary, (512) 800-1421.

We will practice social distancing, but that doesn't mean we can't have a TON of fun (NERF gun wars are allowable....and encouraged LOL). Our rigs were designed as the perfect tailgaters because, well, they have a tailgate :)

I live in Pflugerville. For anyone who lives up North like me, you're more than welcome to caravan with me to Llano via 29.

Awesome.
I live in Georgetown very close to 29. I'd like to caravan if you don't mind. Where and when is a good time/ place to meet?

I head up to Georgetown first via 35 to intersect 29. Could meet up anywhere along the way. Most of the time I've done this, I have people meet me at the Valero off 29 when you first enter Liberty Hill (just past the 183 intersection). If we do that, we need to meet by 8:15 at the latest in order to make it to Llano in time.

So far, this is the head count I have confirmed:

@meatloaf @The Phoenician @AustinJoe

Meatloaf and Joe will be heading out 71 to meet at the Stripes in Llano. Phoenician and myself will meet at the Valero on 29 (just past 183) and then caravan to the Stripes in Llano off 71 to meet up with Meatloaf and AustinJoe.

The address for the Stripes in Llano is: 200 TX-71, Llano, TX 78643

The address for the Valero in Liberty Hill is: 12270 TX-29, Liberty Hill, TX 78642

@Mr Cimarron @LKirk302 @92RedToy @KennyBob @Austin Hot Shoe : I don't want to leave anyone behind. Text me this evening or respond here to let me know you're in. If you live on the north side and want to caravan to Llano with Phoenician and myself, be at the Liberty Hill Valero no later than 8:15. We will be rolling out at that time in order to rendezvous with the rest in Llano.

It's looking like I should be able to go. I'll be coming from the south. So I can either Meetup with everyone in llano or meet more south on the way out.

Kenny, we plan on departing S. Austin at around 8am. Bee can meet up somewhere south if you want

That should work just fine. I can go up through Buda and hit the new toll road. Anywhere around there or west of there would be no problem.

Whatever is most convenient for y'all. Either one of those gas stations nearby would work. Text me at 5122142060.

Oops. Double post

I am in Bertram on 29 on the way to Llano from Liberty Hill. I can fall in line with the convoy as you guys roll down 29 in the morning.

I haven't had any time to work on my Cruiser, so I will be in the Tacoma this trip.

Sweet! PM your number so we can text as we get close. Should be rolling through Bertram no later than 8:30, possibly a little sooner.

Alright, here's the count so far:

Liberty Hill Valero meetup (8:15am rollout): @The Phoenician @Indy
Tagging onto convoy in Bertram (no later than 8:30): @LKirk302

Llano South Stripes meetup (9:30-9:45am rollout for trails): @meatloaf @AustinJoe @KennyBob @92RedToy

Solid group so far! Looking forward to a GREAT day on the gravel and testing out my new radiator and hoses :)

Tomorrow's weather should be good. Looking at highs of 64 (low of 59) with a less than 20% chance of rain throughout the area. The light rains this evening should make the water crossings and splashes fun and knock down ALL the dust that is usually kicked up on these trails so we won't have to spread out and separate by 200+ meters. Might be a few wet spots and light mud, but nothing our trucks can't easily mak it through in 4 Hi without any diffs locked.

How about the Valero at 1626 and Bliss Spillar?
