Neither of the 40's with us would attempt the Step when Claudia read aloud from the trail guide book 'Short wheel base vehicles tend to flip over backwards on the Step'. Tend to, like it was a regular occurance.

I also thought that sentence was funny.

I actually would have attempted if I had someone take me on a strap up front for safety. I didn't think it was that steep (uphill has not been a problem for me :D), and I know the cruiser can do it. But after we had already spent a good hour there, I didn't want to hold up the group. Next time, maybe..........

Funny you mention that. :D Here's a must see video and a pic of it here:

Damn, next time speak up! That's the whole fun of the experience for me, attempting obstacles that look difficult, and watching other people do the same. I'd have been more than happy to pull out a strap and tether your front end down. The way I look at it, the 4 hours it took to get there was the travel time, the fun starts at the obstacles!

When I have some more wheel time under my belt and maybe a locker I will give that step a shot!!!!! The last thing I needed was to ruin that cruiser on one of the first trips out!!

John, Scott's video of the YJ doesn't make it look nearly as bad my pics from the top. I still say the worst part of the step is having to sit there, 1/2 way up spinning the tires to get them to dry off.....surprizingly, it wasn't a problem for me the last time @15psi, comared to my usual antics @ 9psi.

It is a fun obstacle in a short wheelbase...everyone should try it (you just might like it!). Just remember, if you start sliding off the rock, stay off the brakes and let the rig come down...if you try to stop it (by hitting the brakes), you increase the chance of going wheels up.

Speaking of short wheel base climbing the Step. You want to see a SICK VIDEO OF THAT? I mean sick. Watching it pisses me off! :D It's a video of my buddy Scott in his Jeep. He's got friggin' 9.88:1 gears and a 24:1 T-case (like GoodTimes) and he idles up it. Now I've climbed it that easily before, but IDLING up it? Imagine the control?!
