Verify with a DMM at the back of alternator while running. Then go from postive POST of batt to pos output of alt.

Then go to neg post to alt case.

Whats it all read?

Hey gang,

Sorry for the slow reply. Going through a breakup and some major life changes so this got bumped down my list.

Anyway, the truck goes into the shop tomorrow because I don't have the time or energy to deal with it and need it reliable.

Regardless, I'll post back with what shakes out from that to at least add the value of letting anyone reading know what the shop concluded. Although they aren't the cheapest option they had come highly recommended by some other cruiser owners here in Boise and they the two times I've had it there they did me pretty well so I trust them.

Thanks again and I'll update what it shakes out to be.

Hi guys,

Slow reply but the truck was in the shop longer than planned for some other issues as well.

They replaced the alternator and the wiring connection to it. Both were going bad. So far all is good in that area!

In interesting news I blew a fuse to my dash gauge panel coming back from a wheeling trip. That's never happened before but it got me looking at the rest. I can only assume that the new alternator was now pushing enough power to blow a weak fuse. My 30,40,50, and 60 amp fuse all show signs of corrosion in the viewing window. I'm going to be going through and replacing them all. I haven't even touched them in the 4 years I've had the truck and never really thought about it, but the corrosion is super visible. Just food for thought for anyone looking into electrical problems.

I'm curious to see if this helps my sluggish windows when I replace them.

Thanks for the help!

^^^^ Good plan.

'Corrosion' can/will cause resistance in those circuits and will most certainly affect any components downstream to one degree or another.
