Hello All! I am taking out my old, ineffective charcoal canister and replacing it with new one. The new one is built for a different vehicle, a GM version (VC120), but I have read on numerous other threads that it works fine for my vehicle. I own a 1986 FJ60. My old canister has three ports on top; one for Tank, one for Purge, and third one goes to the Outer Vent Control Valve and then to the Float Chamber. This is from right to left in the picture. The new canister (second picture) has only a purge and tank port. My question is...can I tie into the purge line with the third Outer Vent Control Valve line? Or, is there another recommendation from someone out there to remedy this situation? Thank you in advance!

Theoretically it should work...I capped mine (3rd Outer Vent line). I do have a Desmoggd Rig though so its not presenting any problems. It may affect your emissions based on your location. Im sure someone will chime in with more input...

I replaced mine with the same aftermarket canister about 2 months/2,000 miles ago and so far it seems to be working great - and cured a fuel starvation issue I was having. This is what I did after reading a bit on here:

That's what I was thinking. And the VCV is only open with the ignition off, so this way it should function just like the stock setup - but I'm certainly no expert so if anyone has a better idea...
