Question for the group

charcoal canister outlet hose, part # 77754-60301. this is the hose that connects the evap canister vent hardline to the purge VSV.

what is the little black box that the red arrow is pointing to?

i am chasing an evap leak 0441 and 0455, and am trying to understand each part in detail. in looking up this part, it seems that toyota is not longer making it.

I'm seeing 77754-60301 available on Toyota Parts Deal, among other places. EDIT: nope, I was wrong. :(

Try this-(77754-60231) I just installed on my 2001.

Keep in mind. The 100 series was built for 10 years, for the USA market. There are parts variation, based on year.

It seems odd that a single part consists of 2 hoses connected to a black box. From my understanding of the evap system, my guess is that the box is an inline filter designed to remove any particulates from the evap vapors before entering the manifold. Which means that we can use any inline fuel filter and a few hoses to replace.

I've cut the little black box open. No filter in it, just a double chamber.
Speaking of cutting open black boxes - have you ever dissected an evap canister? I don't suppose you'd have pics for reference?

Edit - I found the thread with pics where the guy cut open the back side to replace the charcoal.

By the way, I think the RAV4 charcoal canister may be the exact same as ours, only with the different mounting brackets. If I wind up pulling mine, I will definitely try this route and report back.
