The 2L-TE diesel engine on my Land Cruiser Proda is no good, it has been rebuilt twice and has no compression in Cyl #1. I have decided to switch over to a gas engine and bought a 4Runner with a 22RE engine and convert it to a 22R carb engine.

I have just talked to the mechanic who has removed the 22R and found that the starter is on the wrong side. The 4Runner had the starter on the Right side while the Land Cruiser Proda LJ78 has the starter on the left. The engine from the 4Runner was on a manual transmission and I want to put the engine on a A343F automatic transmission. Would this engine fit or would it nee another bell housing.

would a starter from the 2LTE not fit the bell housing and engine?
chances are you will need a different bell housing unless the bolts line up to the engine.

What are you going to control the auto with?
As its electronically controlled via the engine ecu from the 2LTE

The EFI intake is removed and replaced with a intake from a 22R and carburetor.

still doesn't explain how you are going to control the electronically controlled auto tranny...

Seldom hear from Diesel to Gas engine swap.
Most frequent is from gas to diesel.:D

In our region thats the norm; gas to diesel. However, for some strange eson I have yet to comprehend, over in the US the 22R is held in great esteem.

Anyway, its probably been debated to hell and back.:)

If I replace the engine with a EFI, I would have to deal with changing wiring and ECU. The engine will have a carburetor and the original ECU will still be there to control the tranny

going 22R or 22RE is a huge step in the right direction from a 2LTE.
same fuel mileage
same power
less headaches
