Center spiral cable problem -- steering wheel installation

Got the air bag off. The plug was a tough to dislodge.
I can't seem to get the plug back inside the airbag side.
Before pulling the wheel I taped behind it between the plastic cover and yellow surface so that didn't move but didn't see a cable per se unless the yellow cord from the airbag needs to be taped.

Also do you tork the inside t-30 torx screws to 78in?

Ok, done with the install. I hooked up the battery and checked blinkers and the cruise light lights up on the dash. I'm afraid to drive it now.:o

If the cruise light stays on I bet you got the plug on the wheel for the cruise control incorrect somehow. I suggest taking the wheel back off and rechecking your work with all the wire connections.

IIRC, there were inside and outside torx screws. I torqued them all to 78 in-lbs.

In the 96 FSM, page SR-20, it says:

12. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL PAD NOTICE: Make sure the wheel pad is installed to the specified torque. If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, re- place the wheel pad with a new one. When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and are not pinched between other parts. (a) Connect the airbag connector. (b) Install the wheel pad after confirming that the circumfer-
ence groove of the torx screws is caught on the screw case.
(c) Using a torx socket wrench, torque the 2 screws.
Torque: 9.0 N·m (90 kgf·cm, 78 in.·lbf[/SIZE])
(d) Install the steering wheel lower No.2 and No.3 cover.

The Install was a complete success. Thanks for all your help. I was worried about handling the airbag so much while trying to pull apart the plug. There is a little note in the FSM says not to pull the plug out of the inside of the airbag itself and I happen to do just that. Caught a little sweat but everything works great.
Now I wish it was a heated steering wheel.:)
