Just curious how many 60/62 guys out there would be interested in a custom center console. Similar to the Tuffy/ CCOT ones but not as expensive. I will be designing and building one for my 60 in the next month or so. What options would you guys want? I hate my stock one and i'm just frustrated with some of the options out there. Some things I am going to incorporate into my console: Taller, Lockable, Padded Vinyl Top, Front and or Rear Cup Holders, Fake Floor, Stereo/ CB Compartment, 16 Gauge Steel, Powder Coat Finish with Multiple Color Options. These would all be custom, made to order units, built by me. Will post pics when I get it going.

It sounds cool, what price point are you looking at? I would be interested if it was reasonable. I would like all of the things you listed off except the CB unless you made a cool way to do the stereo and CB so it looked clean. I'll have to have cupholders as well. I always drink and drive (sode and coffee mostly sometimes water or juice).

Have you seen this thread though...this console looks decent at a fraction of what a tuffy costs.

I'm frustrated with all of the options out there too. They're all too tall!

See, my fiance' is small enough to step over the OE console to get to the back seat and make sammitches while we're on the go. All of the options that I've seen are too tall for her to be able to do that. I'll take mobile sammitches over console storage any day.

The OE console would be fine if it were durable enough for her to step on rather than having to step over. Cup holders in a reasonable spot wouldn't hurt. Maybe I'll just get some of those gimbaled boat cup holders?

Sounds pretty good, by fake floor do you mean something like a toolbox tray that you can take out to access the bottom level? That would be pretty cool.

Damn - when shifting quickly, if I slam my funny bone on my tuffy one more time, people are gonna hear quite a scream in da Valley !

(I got long arms) ...

I dont have a Tuffy or access to one for measurements. What would be the perfect height you guys are looking for??

Yes, Either a tray or flat piece that you could pull out with extra storage under it.

Not sure about a price yet, still shopping hardware, pad, cup holder and powdercoating prices. I did see the smittybuilt thread the other day and will probably be hard for me to beat that price unless I mass produced the things. We shall see though.

Here is my thoughts on price...fit and function over rule inexpensive...PERIOD. I would say if your box ended up costing less than $200 dollars and I could get it in grey that matches the interior I'd be happy.

Let me throw this your way...I have taken many CAD classes and own CAD software. If you want we could work on this together. I have no means of fabrication because of a lack of tooling, but I do own a computer and CAD skills. If you were interested you could send me sketches and I can turn them into drawings for everyone to get a sense of how the box will look. It's totally up to you, but I thought I'd offer my assistance.

To give you an idea of what I've done in the past check out these pictures. This was for what is called the "Xtreme Gravity Racing Series". The pictures are from start to finish...you can see what I drew in CAD and what we produced as the end result. I don't mean to hi-jack but I wanted to show you I have the skills if you chose to use them.

If you get this pulled together, I'd be game for two possibly for both my FJ62s. Both are grey. I like the idea for the tray I use this all the time in a chevy Impala at work. I'd may even want to put a 12V cig plug in it too. Lockable would be nice and as wide as possible.

Thanks for your thoughts and brainstorming!

And also interested .

Mr Cliff C , now that was a nice offer also.

A couple of things to consider in the design stage.

I put a 62 console in my BJ and instead of screwing it down permenently I mounted it on a hinge to access the fuse panel and wires that are under it.

Provide a location to mount switches and electrical crud. Currently I have winch controls, air locker controls and light switches all in my console. Plus 3 12V outlets (GPS, Ipod, etc).

Dude, nice battery switch! Is that for your acc's in the console, or for engine starting/winch?

That switch controls the batteries under the hood. When I moved everything to my BJ I moved that switch under the hood. Its just a blue seas switch available from a marine supply.
