(Remove one of the blank switch templates and insert the switch by pushing into the hole.)

Thats off the instructions from Slee's site.

How do you remove one of the Blank Switch Template? Do they just pop out, cut out with exacto.

I am just trying to do my home work before I tear into this job.

Thanks everyone
And Merry Christmass.

use a very small/ thin flathead screw driver to slip behind the edge of the blank template on one of the two smaller sides of it. there is a clip on each side that holds it in, so you have to carefully push in one of the clips by sliding in beneath the template panel. hope this helps. p.s. at least this is how my fj62 was and most other vehicles i've seen.

I found it to be very easy. Just a few minutes from start to finish. After removing the ashtray screws and the cupholder screws just pop the panel towards you at the top. The blanks on mine just popped out using my finger from the back. The terminated connector was stuffed back a bit, but it was easy to spot. Remove the terminator, put the switch through the front and connect it. Reassemble the dash and that's it.

I love having this switch. Definitely worth the high price in my opinion.

It just pops off when the panel is off. Don't use the screwdriver it will damage your plastic like Christo said. Only issue I had not covered in the instructions is I have an LX450 and had to move the security sensor to the bottom row. I had no blanks on the top row and the harness for the CDL didn't seem to want to go to the bottom. I wanted it on the top so it was no big deal.

HIGH price? Man, I hope you never have to replace a headgasket, I don't know what you'll think about that.

My 97 FZJ was the same way.. that darn sensor didn't want to come out. They must put that wood grain stuff on after they installed it, it was tighter than hell coming out.

Also, there is another plug in back there that looks just like the cdl plug in, but it has something to do with the stereo. Make sure you get the right one so you don't waste a whole bunch of time trying to figure out why the cdl lock light doesn't light up, and the right front speaker stops working when you push the button in  Don't ask me how I know :o I knew I shouldn't have done it at night time armed only with a flash light to see.... but I was so excited I couldn't wait till the next day :bounce:

Well that was pretty easy. And it is working great.

Thanks Folks , that was fun.

I just finished the CDL/7-pin mod to my rig :D

I have a few questions.

When in 4 high , with out the botton pushed there are no indicator lights on the dash just like normal, when I push the botton while in 4 high I now get the Diff/ABS on the dash.
All is normal?

And when I now drop it down to 4 low I do Not get any indicators on my dash Untill I push the botton, Its right?

I understand that the switch lets me lock the center diff while travel in 4 high and travel at more normal speed, say to get home on the road after a foot of fresh snow.

droping it into 4 low with out pushing the botton, this lets me engage a lower gearing with out engaging the center diff or disabling the ABS ? There are no dash indicator lights when the botton is not pushed in 4 low.

While in 4 low, when I push the botton, is that when it engages the center diff and dissables the ABS? Thats when the dash indicator lights come on, after I push the botton.

Well both of those mods were easy and fun, thanks Dan and everyone else who wrote about this mod on the Mud.

If anyone has a couple of those screws you find around and inside the ashtray, I lost two while doing this, would you be willing to send me two?

All sounds normal. The indicator and ABS lights should only come on when you push the CDL switch. I haven't done the Pin-7 mod yet, but I have already found the CDL switch to be very useful.

Here's a question for you guys. If you unlock the CDL in low with both lockers engaged, would it make tight turns on trails any easier? I suppose it wouldn't be difficult to just unlock the front diff, but as we all know that takes a while sometimes, and this is more of a hypothetical anyway.

thanks Ary I just wanted to make sure I understood what I had read.

So I am just in a lower gearing while in 4 low without pushing the botton, and the center diff does not lock and the ABS does not dissable untill I push the botton while in 4 low ?

This is mainly for the benefit of other LX 450 owners:

I installed the CDL switch I got for Christmas, and with the advantage of advice from this forum (and a consult from Romer) it went smoothly.

I was trying to figure out which upper level switch needed to be relocated to make room for the CDL switch and its short wiring. I discovered that the manual antenna switch's wiring is a few inches longer than the rest of the switches' wiring, and when unfurled it reached the lower row of knockouts. Just barely, though, and the wiring had to be run "just so" behind the radio frame to reach it. That left room for the CDL switch in the upper row.

Ary,

I haven't done the 7-pin mod, but I believe the computer needs to see the center diff locked for the f/r lockers to be locked. Once you unlock the center diff, the axles will unlock also. At least that is how I understand it.
