cDan was right! OEM O2 sensors are better.

Of course. And not a bad price. I've returned one Bosch to Autozone, will attempt to return the other to the Autozone it came from, so no big $ lost. The signals from both sensors seem much stronger, greater amplitude. #2 was so active at first, I thought my cat had failed, what have I done?! It seems to have settled a bit. The heaters are apparently working now. My OBDII scanner now shows many self-tests now complete, that didn't before, like the O2 sensor self-test. Still haven't seen that catalyst test complete, wonder what that will take? The new ProScan software I'm using has O2 testing, it just locked up the program before, now it runs nicely.

mind telling the uninformed among us what these wavesets are and how to interpret them? :)

They state that OEM is correct and corner-cutting weenies pay the piper............;)

Hell if I know, that's why I post them here:D Everything I know about this I learned here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=75975&highlight=cat The short-term fuel trim is looking at O2 sensor #1, trying to keep it at some desireable amount of O2 for efficiency and cat health. I think long-term fuel trim is adjusted based on a pre-programmed map, maybe some other sensors. And I think O2 sensor #2 just keeps track of how well the cat is working. I do know they should be wiggling, and if #2 wiggles too much the cat isn't doing it's job.

And If I get my money back for the Boschs, I can pretend none of this ever happened. No piper!

Go Scott!!

Why not post this on the end of that big long O2 sensor thread too, for posterity?

Schweeet! So how many miles is your truck at, and how much were the sensors?

DougM

147k miles. The Autozone sensors were $68 each. The correct ones were $104 each, and a bit of crow. The satisfaction of no CEL and wife's faith restored: priceless.

Where did you buy the correct ones?

nice itch... http://www.ih8mud.com/ads.php#banners American Toyota ext.8

gotta order me up a set of those, I've cleared my P0420 code twice and since there aren't any exhaust leaks, that's the next assumption....

145+k on mine too....

They do make a biggie . I know of a friends truck who has 2 new ones with a new frontand rear cat(dealer installed before he got it)and now a super high flow rear Cat that a aftermarket O2 in the front that was nice enough to clog up the rear cat :frown:
But with 2 new Cdan supplied o2s and cat cleaning rod for the rear cat no more CEL for 10K miles :bounce:

I bought this OBDII scanner to help me with such assumptions, avoid replacing good parts. I'm still learning, but it helps to see what the sensor outputs look like. I have four cars with over 100k, and it's already paid for itself.

Scott, you will give us some serious before and after mpg figures, right? :)

got one of those laptop dealios myself....plannin to check readouts enroute up nort' tonite, see what they register....tho, given all the stuff I've read, it's a pretty foregone conclusion with this mileage...

The 80 was the wifes rig, she didn't keep any data. It doesn't get driven much, I've biked to work for the last year +. On my recent drive to O'Hare with the Bosch Universal sensors I got 15.3mpg at mostly 78mph, they were working at highway speeds just fine. It was getting better than that last time we drove it up north, a few years ago, at slower speeds with a roof box. Sorry that's not what you want, but look at all the pretty graphs!

Why would anyone pay top $ to have a quality wagon like a Cruiser and then use second rate after market parts anyway? It's a no brain-er. With anything of quality stick with OEM for peace of mind. The little extra you pay will evaporate with one bad part from AutoBoys.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Discussion of OBDII scanners and O2 sensors often leads
me to contemplate Robert Frost as well :flipoff2:

As do I and it certainly would be a different place,
without the Miller boys.
