I have a 78 FJ40 and needed brake lights so I got on Cool Cruisers website and bought some. They came in and have a five pin connector on them, mine has a four pin. I emailed them and got some lady named Mary. Mary says she will send me an adapter and sent me 4 red wire connector butt splices. What the hell am I supposed to do with 4 anyway, there are 8 wires. Anyway has anyone ever run into this while problem? What did you do? Did they just send me brakes lights for a later model or something?

i had the same problem with there crap. i had to carefully pull them apart (the plugs) and put my old ones on to make it work. it would be nice if they told you about it ahead of time. and JTOutfitters isn't any better! i just got new front signals ($55.00 each) for my 76 from them and there photos show 3 wires and what i got has 2 and no ground wires so i had to add grounds to those and one of them had the factory rubber boot on the mount and the other had what looks like rubber gasket matterial cut to fit around the bottom and rubber cemented in place :censor: thankfully i already had new ones from SOR. you would think for the money they could get it right or at least have the balls to tell you in there adds.

pretty sure OEM lights don't have these issues.. just goes to show ya what the extra $$ pays for

At your local toyota dealer... They will be attached to a set of OEM lights. You can then send the crap back to CCOT. After the 20% TLCA discount and no shipping charges the cost is not all that much more.

good luck getting them to take the lamps back unless you want to buy the OEM ones from them.. it says right on there website there could be issues with plugs - I have made mistakes with other companies and they usually seem pretty good about things - just approach them humbly, they didn't do anything wrong

good luck trying to send them beck.... ccot sucks, they are d***s when it comes to customer service.... i wouldnt waste my time even thinking about buying a part from them:flipoff2:.. just my two cents

that's interesting, they didn't use to have the disclaimer back when i bought mine (about 3 years ago) must have had enough complaints that they had to post it. i don't buy from them anymore so its been awhile.

ccot sucks, their prices are high, their products are sub par, i dunno about customer service but haven't heard much good about it. i bought front blinkers for my fj40 last week and seen them on ccot and wouldn't buy them from there and i bought them from another place for alot less and probably better quality.

Hard wire it. How often do you plan on pulling them out anyway? It is a huge pain in the ass, I've had to make my own wiring diagrams, eventually made the ccot plugs work, but everything was wrong.

I converted the harness connector and mating connector on my rear lights to modern waterproof WeatherPac connectors. I'm very happy with the results.

I bought the same lights for my 78 a few months ago. I left about 2-3" of wire out of the connector on the taillight side and spliced the wires from the new light so now it still has the factory connection.

Black on new light = frame ground
Red/Blue stripe = Blue on new light
Green/Yellow stripe = Yellow on new light
Green/White stripe = Red on new light
Green = Green on new light

ccot sucks

i had a simular experience with ccot, only it is about shipping. i now live in the philippines and getting parts is a bitch. i ordered about $200.00 in parts. the shipping was over $450.00 dollars, they said that was what ups charges, and if i did not like it, i could cancel my order, so i did. thanks for also warning about the quality of parts. specter is a better deal.

there are three different plugs style
small rectangle 4 wire
larger rectangle 4 wire
roudish 5 wire
plugs are year and month specific
5 wire is the best anyways
hardwire it and the 5th wire is a ground

grounds are good!!!!

That wireing picture is what I needed. I am going to hard wire it and call it done. I won't be buying anything from them ever again. Thanks for all the help.

IMHO you guys are being ridiculous. it says it right on their website that there could be in issue but for some reason you insist they are a horrible company and out there to scam you. and if you think CCOT's shipping is nuts just wait till you see what SOR charges you! if you guys want to bash these places then do it in chat especially when you won't even give them a fair chance or own up for your OWN MISTAKES! :flipoff2:

I didn't realize I needed to go to the home page to look for a disclaimer for every part they have. If the connectors are not what comes on fj40's then it needs to say it in the description in caps and bold. But then they wouldn't sell any brake lights would they. IMHO they are stupid or atleast have stupid people answering the phones. If you call up someone and have a 4pin to 5 pin problem and they tell you they are sending an adapter for (8) wires and what they send you is (4) butt slices, FOR THE WRONG SIZE WIRE, then they need some kind of training. I will not be buying anything from them ever again. I was castrated by the local LC buys anyway when I told them where my brake lights came from.

A guy from ccot called me earlier today and gave me the duh speech. He acted like I should have known you had to figure out how to wire these up. Anyway, if anyone buys these from these guys, get the toyota lights they are like 30-40 more for the set and plug right up.

Also, for all you guys that have been trying to help me out. I have just started a new thread asking how much my 60 and 40 are worth. I am getting stuck right now with money issues. If you got time stop by that thread and give me an opinion so I won't give me cruisers away.

Thanks again,
Bo
