cel came on a d i can not find a obd port. Right floorboard scalding hot and leaking exhaust. So took it to muffler shop. 650.00 to put 2 new ones on or 100.00 to straight pipe. You do the math. Well cel went off. Then today appeared again.
Plenty of oil pressure. Thinking about just unplugging the fuse.
Any suggestions

Any other clues you could share? Lets start with the model year...

Your CEL will continue to appear if all they did was put in a straight pipe.

You will get even worse gas mileage than you had been getting.

Please advise year, make model, mileage and we can typically help.

The $650 for replacement dual cats really isn't a bad number considering what some here have done.

What's your intended use of the vehicle?
Who does most of the work on the vehicle? You? Or do you pay someone else to do the work? Who buys the parts?

No OBD2 port on a 94. You have to jumper wire the diagnostic port in the engine bay and count CEL flashes to get the code.

"Math"?

Yeah. That'll work.

94 Yoder landcruiser
It has a lot more power now that converters are gone. I can deal with gas mileage.
I do most of my own work like maintenance, brakes, but not internal engine or transmission. I buy all the parts. We bought it to haul grand kids around and go to our house in the mountains jn the winter.

Your '94 is OBD1. The diagnostic port is located on the passenger side of the firewall. To read the codes you need to insert a jumper (paperclip will suffice) between TE1 and E1. Turn on the ignition and count the flashes of the CEL. Flashes are in 2 groups - 2 flashes, pause then 3 flashes would be Code 23. There may be multiple codes. Do this and post the codes here and we can help with the next step.

It the cats were clogged, I'm sure you did see a performance increase.

Check your codes per what IrishReiver said above. That will determine the next step.

Can't I just get a obdm1 scan tool or is that obsolete
There is an ODB1 scanner called TOYOCOM. Not sure how available they are. The paperclip will give you the same results at a fraction of the cost.

For the 94 with odb1, there is no sensor after the Cat. So the check engine like is probably not related to the missing Cat. My guess is either with the EGR or the O2 sensor. You do gain little bit more power, especially on the top end but you will get a little worse gas mileage.
