I am in for the trail run, but won't be able to make it for camping.

Just updated the list.

Even though there are already ten people signed up, things change and people drop out, so. . .
If you are in for the run, please post up if you are willing to have someone ride with you.
If you want to do the run and are willing to rise with someone, please post your willingness.
Thank you.

I am down for camping also.
I could be driver or passenger for the Casner Run, just happy to get up north!

I was camping at the spot were we did the 2023 Casner run and the USFS is closing that area and building a wood fence blocking access. The person from the USFS said that the roads coming off of forest road 231 to the rim are not authorized roads and were there because people were making their own roads. I showed the person on the Gaia GPS app with the USFS 2016 map overlay, that the USFS did have it marked as a road, but they are still closing it. We may need to find a new spot to camp next Casner trip. It is too bad because it was a nice spot.

I have been looking for the closure map, but I cannot seem to find it. I will reach out to the Forest Service verify.
Thank you.

Believe you have to check the lastest travel map usually put out around April. It shows where your are allowed to travel not what areas are closed. They even show where you can legally camp. They do not have the man power to enforce camping in the entire Coconino forest but if they are fencing the area good chance fines would be steep if your caught camping in the area. Sounds like a pre. Scouting trip would be needed.

Are you referring to the current Motor Vehicle Use Map from Coconino?

I spoke with Michael Gordon from the Forest Service over the weekend and he said he spoke with his Flagstaff based counterpart. Michael told me there are many areas on top of the rim, off of FR231 that are being fenced off. He did not know specifically if "our" camping spot was fenced off.
I have attached a screenshot of the April 2025 Travel Map. The arrow is approximately where we camp.

Yes, a pre run scouting trip will be needed. If anyone from the Flagstaff area would like to scout it out, I would appreciate it. I hope to be able to get up there in the next few weeks to check it out.

We can always camp at The Edge of the World. Michael said it was open. I do not see FR9011Q on the Travel Map, so . . .

Is the run power wagon friendly? She’s definitely full sized, still smaller than the f250 but this is what I’ll be driving. I don’t mind wheeling it but I’m not ready to scratch it up.

Also planning on camping.

Casner 2025 - September (19th -21st)

“It’s on like Donkey Kong!”
I received a permit to run Casner Trail #8 for the week of September 15 - 21.

For me, camping up on the rim is always the best part. Camping will be the nights of September 19th & 20th. The camping spot is near the east end of FR 231. Same place from 2022. GPS coordinates are: 34.97696, -111.79906.

The run up Casner Trail will be the morning of the 20th. We will meet at the Safeway in Sedona at 8:30 and head out at 9:00. Do NOT top off your tank in Sedona, it is a mistake. - Ask me how I know.

If you have not ever run Casner, it is very unique and a lot of fun. Read about it HERE.

As always, the run up #8 is limited to 10 vehicles (with a minimum of 3) but camping is available to anyone.

Please sign me up for camping and trail run (looks like second alternate at the moment). Looking forward to getting back involved with CSC-it has been a while.

The only issue you might run into are the turns on the switchbacks. You might have to make a several point turn.

Okay, thanks. I’m up for trying it. I used to run Montana Mountain in a 2006 double cab tundra and was used to that. If I’m being unreasonable and I can cede my spot.

I would like to go on the run if a spot open up. I'm also willing to ride along. Also put me down for camping.

Going to Flagstaff this weekend and I plan on scouting camping spots along 231. I will post up what I find.

Going to run it on 9/6 or 9/7.

Brice,

I have to give up my spot on the trip. I am now heading to Colorado for work the week of 9/15, and there is no guarantee I will get back on Friday in time to make it up there. Yet again, work gets in the way of a good time. If something changes, I will just hang out at camp or jump in with someone.

Jason
