Hi all,
We just published an installation video we made for the 2004-2007 Toyota Land Cruiser to add wireless CarPlay and Android Auto with the GROM VLine VL2 system.

In this video, you will find the step-by-step dashboard disassembly to access the back of the stereo and display to connect the GROM VLine VL2 power interface cable and video cable.
We route the cables and position the main VLine VL2 module inside the glove compartment for easy and secure accessibility. The glove compartment is a highly recommended location for the VLine VL2 system main unit.

Once you connect the VLine VL2 or VLite VT2 system to the back of the factory stereo and display in compatible vehicles, you will get a fully functional wireless CarPlay and Android Auto directly integrated into your factory car stereo and display. A stand-alone Android interface is also available with the GROM VLine VL2 system, which allows you to install any apps you like.

The VLine VL2 system to add CarPlay and Android Auto to the factory stereo of Toyota Land Cruiser 2004-2007 is available here:

Interested but the feedback I have read is this unit can be very glitch prone. Can you speak to how stable the operation is?

I can't speak for the 100 series models, but the one in my 2008 LX570 has a year on it with no problems at all.

I've been waiting for this for the last year.

Now you guys need to get the 2000 (1998-2002) series running.
:bounce::bounce:

It is pretty stable for majority of our users. Our technical team quickly resolves any difficulties if they are reported. We are also using our products in our vehicles on the daily basis.

I've had the VL2 for almost 5 years now. I had one significant error in that time and they immediately provided a fix (needed a hard reset). They provide software updates often and the unit is continually more stable.

It's not perfect, but it's quite good. It has NEVER caused any of the OEM functions to suffer. I view this as the "safe upgrade" because it's quick and easy and you don't risk killing any OEM function.

The top notch solution would be some comprehensive HVAC/stereo conversion and then a high end aftermarket unit. Or a large screen replacement that fits and works well. Buuuuut those are nearly an order of magnitude more expensive to actually pull off properly so the GROM unit has been pretty sweet, IMO.

I agree and have had same experience. had one issue, went to grom site, chatted with tech for 5min and they had a fix out to my email. Not perfect but its a very good upgrade unless you want to really devote some serious time and cash.

I've had the VL2 for a few years. It is definitely glitchy. Two friends - one GX, one 100 - had the VL2 and later took it out because of the glitches. I do agree that it's a "safe" system in that none of the problems/glitches impacted anything but the system itself - no issues with the HVAC, etc.

The key to minimizing glitches (not pairing/connecting, green screen with static lines, crashing, etc.) is to stay on top of the updates... and there are a LOT of updates. But, updating can be a hassle. Often, the updates don't happen via wifi and need to be done via a thumb drive... after converting that thumb drive to a specific format, finding and downloading the update...

To be fair, when it works, it's pretty great - makes the truck feel like it got yanked 20 years into the future. Well, except the screen is still like 480p... or 240 but that's Toyota's fault.

Hi , I am interested in this product, but i've read several reviews mentioning that it can be quite glitch-prone. Could you provide more information on the stability and reliability of its operation ?Have there been any software updates to address these issues ?

I would caution anyone with a 2007 Land Cruiser to think long and hard about this option. I tried one, and never successfully had it function for more than 20 minutes at a time. I worked with tech support multiple times, exchanged the unit once, and still never solved the issues. Hopefully others have better results.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties that you experienced with the GROM product. We have many owners of 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser that are satisfied with GROM VLine VL2 or VLite VT2 system.
We also constantly install our systems for local customers and test them in the real life situations. Sometimes the difficulty might be related to the incorrect installation, or even the stereo malfunction.

Our technical team is always happy to help!

Not sure if I'm late the party, but I recently updated my Grom Vline and it now allows me to keep the FM radio while using Vline as the display! Meaning, I can run wireless carplay and listen to FM radio. I didn't think this was possible, but its a game changer for me.

This may have been around for while and I never knew because I was slacking on the updates. And I've had way less glitches since the updates, its super smooth connections.

I've been pretty critical of the GROM system over the years. Early on, even when updated, it was very glitchy - dropping out, not pairing, starting up with the "calling aliens" screen (black screen with green waving lines)... As they've (slowly) responded to all the glitches, it's gotten better and better.

Currently (damn, I hope I'm not jinxing it), the system is working as well as the O.E. CarPlay in our other/new cars. Well, the screen is still like 240p, but you know what I mean.

The area GROM could Improve on is the updates. There seem to be a lot (!) and without any push notifications, I never know when to update the system. I suppose we're just supposed to check for updates weekly.

Despite the glitches and incessant need for updates, it may still be the best option for factory-like CarPlay
