hi all!
I am shopping for a nice cargo carrier! Looking for something that will fit my factory rails on my GX470.
What do you use and would you recommend it?
It's going on this rig.

What are you planning on carrying up there?

The wife.

No, not really, but sounded funny. I would have my second spare tire, some tools, my rotopax flat gas can, maybe a tot of misc. gear that will not fit in back, my off road gear bag, I don't like hearing that stuff bounce around.

I was considering the Malone, Rhino aluminum, Thule, or Yakima mega carrier. Just a few I reviewed that seemed tough enough.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Not sure your gonna have much room after the spare tire is up there ... but it will leave you with plenty in the boot if the spare is on the roof

This isnt a joke although i may get some flack but Have you looked at WAL-MART?

This what you have in mind?

I did check the Walmart on line, found 3 that didn't really fit the bill. I found a nice large one but it's a two piece system, someone commented that it was noisy going over bumps. I don't think I would like that. The Yakima rack is nifty since you can add their modifications to it, like jack holder, spare tire holder, light mounts and so forth. I want one in the 48-56" long by 38-46" wide range, that will leave room if my spare tire is riding up there. I don't plan on modifying tire size so it's about a 31" diameter which will leave some room up there.

Have you considered the ARB for the 120 Prado? I can't assume it would fit but someone must know if it would. I like the look of a ARB. Also, Diamond RAX, out of Big Bear CA, had some very nice looking racks but I can't find him on the web recently.

I should have my ARB Prado 120 roof rack fit kit in the next week or so, I will let you know if it is compatible with the GX.

I would be grateful to see your rig and firmest with that roof rack!

I did check Malloy world, nothing worth buying there.

The Arb racks appear solid, I am a firm believer in getting what you paid for so a $100 for a roof rack is just a recipe for disappointment!

I looked at craigslist and there was a Thule rack for $150 but it's on Whidbey Island...I absolutely hate driving north of Seattle!

I made one since I couldn't find one that I liked and that I could afford. I had never welded before, but I borrowed a TIG machine, got the 1 hour tutorial, and started sticking metal together. I haven't added it up, but I think I'm a bit over $300 for this rack. I know this doesn't attach to the factory rails like you want, but this is a stronger (better, imo) solution. I can walk around on my rack no problem. The only issue is wind noise; I still need to make a deflector for it. I have a carbon fiber one in the works.

Sick truck
Ya no doubt, I wish I had the resources for that toe of rack!
I want something large, like 60" long, 40" wide. So far the only one that fits my stock roof rails is the Thule and one by Malone. Both are over 60" long, one is $500 the other is $275, one is aluminum one is steel. I am leaning to the Thule at this point.

Does anyone have experience with a 3/4 length rack? I would like to have a durable rack to carry off road tools like shovel, jack and camping equipment. However, I would not want to have wind noise for my DD. Would a rack stopping behind the sunroof and a deflector avoid the wind noise?

This is the route I would lie to go. I like the low profile and the rack sans rails looks so much sleeker. Is there a rack designed to go on the GX using the holes from the factory rails? You are very talented WhiteH20!
