I am in the middle of a rebuild of my 76 Aisan carburetor and can't figure out how to correctly measure the float adjustment. The kit included a small right angle piece of paper with 1/32 measurements on one side and then MM measurements up to 6MM on the other. I have searched through the threads and can not seem to find it. Thanks in advance, Matt

Me Too!

I just bought myself my first Fj-40. It wasn't running just right (Start and run for a few seconds, maybe a minute and then act like it's starving for fuel, with none in the sight glass, and then die) and so, after reading a ton of threads and posts trying to figure out what my problem was, I went through the carb to clean and inspect. but still waiting for FSM and was wondering what the specs were on the float measurements also. Mine is a '75 with the original Aisan. (I'm a newbie btw, so if I'm stepping on anyones toes by adding this to this post please forgive me and tell what I'm doing wrong by doing so!)

With the top cover off, install the new needle valve assembly, float and pivot pin with the top cover gasket removed. Hold the top cover upside down. Let the float rest on the needle under its own weight and measure for 6mm between the lowest point of the end of the float and the machined flat gasket mating surface of the top cover.. If not 6mm, adjust the centre tab on the float that contacts the needle until 6mm is measured.. Then, lift the float up till the limit stops on the float contact the top cover protrusion. Measure for 1.1mm between the needle and the adjustment tab.. Adjust the two tabs that contact the protrusion. I guessed this distance, and I dont think its crucial for float level performance, but I'm happy to be corrected..

Welcome :flipoff2:

Symptoms of bad fuel filter, pump or blocked mesh carb inlet filter.

Thank You!

Very good to know! Thank you. I will have to double check on it! However, I got it running. I had checked/replaced all the things that you mentioned, except hadn't quite got to the fuel pump yet. I was blowing out the fuel lines and found gas bubbling out of one of them. ( KISS Principle-KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID ) replaced that and it runs good! (Maybe in need of a little fine tuning but rather well all things considered.) Thanks again!
