A buddy has a problematic 1FE in his 80 that suggests an engine rebuild. I've got what has so far been a reliable but high-mileage 1FE in my troopy (450K--or was is 550K km; I can't remember; a lot anyway). Both engines are carbs not EFI.

My question to the assembled wisdom is whether I could give my buddy the engine from my troopy, and take his engine and have it rebuilt and stuck in my troopy?

Are these two carbureted engines completely identical, or are there differences? Both vehicles are from 1995 or 1996.

John I would think they would be identical. On the terminology front, those are 1FZ-F engines if carburated. They are 1FZ-FE engines if fuel injected.

Look at the VIN plates on the firewall on both and make sure they both say 1FZ-F for Engines.

1FZ-f are the same far as I can tell, there may be small differences here and there, but the engines should be bolt in swappable.
