Are the bolts that mount the seat rails to the brackets 7/16" x 20 tp?

They fit...

And 12mm too big, 10mm too small...

Also, it seems the same for the nut that holds the transfer case shifter lever in place...

Whats up??? Can there be an 11mm that I am not aware of?

An answer to this would be great!!!

Were talking about a car that is around 30 years old... anything can be anything!!!
just try 11mm!!!

Oddly enough some bolts in the Land Cruiser are indeed 7/16NF. Why you ask? Well in Japan you have to work very hard to find 7/16NF bolts. As such Toyota tends to use them in areas were they do not want you to change to some crap bolt. Seat belts and such.

You can use 11 X 1.25 if you wish, it is a few hundreds of a mm off but it works. However 11 X 1.25 are even harder to find than 7/16NF here.

Conversationally, they also use 7/16NF for scaffolding bolts. Seems they don't want them monkeyed about with either.

Some PO's will use anything!

I have found more than a couple American threaded bolts holding on the body panels of my 40.

In othe words, You cant always trust that someone before you has used the proper fixie.

I believe the world wide standard for seat belts, brackets etc is 7/16nf which relate to around 11mm but not quite. I just bought new over the counter seat belts for my FJ40 and the bolts that came with them bolted straight in (7/16).

You can buy lap, sash, retractables etc they all come with the same bolts, 7/16nf.

These bolts are high tensile steel with a fine thread, which mean that can be highly torqued, they tend to stretch but not snap not like stainless steel so they are used for seat brackets, seat belts and mounting roll cages to the chassis etc.

Modifier's who replace these bolts with stainless steel tend to grind the markings off the bolt heads so inpectors don't pick the change.

I would hate to be the owner of a car that was in an accident where seat belt or seat bracket bolts broke.

BINGO. Every single vehicle I have ever worked on (mostly Toyotas, I admit) have had 7/16-20 bolts in the seatbelt mounts. I read somewhere that this was a DOT requirement, but I don't know if this is true.

Prop shaft boltd / nuts seem also to be M11 but perhaps it's actually 7/16NF - got some new ones (lots of money from a local stealership) and will have to check, they are a very fine thread and small nut O/D in relation to the bolt diameter.
