74 FJ 40 idling bad - actually stalls without choke - but OK at speed. It isn't the fuel lines, carb, pump, filter - can the EGR caus eit to idle so bad it dies? What do I do about that?

It depends on whether it is the CA or federal model. On the federal, the EGR connects to a plate under the carb and will cause a big vacuum leak and kill the engine. On the CA model, the EGR connects above the throttle plate and while a open EGR valve may cause the idle to drop, it won't kill it.

Too bad we haven't been able to help you with this yet.

A while back, I offered that it may be the idle solenoid.
You didn't mention it in your thread so I'll pose the ? again.
Are you running the Aisin carb?
And if so, have you checked your fuel cut (idle) solenoid?
