'71 FJ40 with original clutch master and fluid reservoir. It has a very slow leak at the metal reservoir. Can this cause clutch shudder? New SOR clutch kit intalled with resurfaced flywheel. Thank you

Without over-analyzing this, no.

I take it the clutch kit included a new pressure plate? How bad was the flywheel when you took it in?

I'm voting "NO". More likely is oil contamination on the new disk...

I used to get a little shudder. Take the cover off the bottom of the bellhouisng. See if the fingers on the clutch look to be at the same level. Have someone push in the clutch pedal and see if all the fingers contact the throwout at the same time. Then prop the clutch pedal with a stick and spray some brakleen between the disk and clutch and flywheel. May help quite a bit. Always worked for me.

Question from e-rock: I take it the clutch kit included a new pressure plate? How bad was the flywheel when you took it in?

Answer: First: Yes, pressure plate, disc and throwout bearing; and Second: Few very fine cracks, otherwise it planed very smooth.

Answer: I will try it, thanks!

Also: Thank you Pighead and Pin_Head.

Just to be a contrarian;)

What if you have air bubbles, or water contaminating your fluid so the compression is not constant? Is the fluid clear?

Perhaps an air leak in the rubber might cause a shudder?

I have noticed with my 67' that I get shudder when my idle is set really low. It was at about 400RPM now I have it set at 500-600 rpm. Chek it out it may help may not, and I might just be full of s***. :meh:
