Much better

Looks slightly better, Cam. You know, like it was made to go together that way! I'd say it's a race between you and Beno who is back on the road first.

glad things are looking better...

He should win that race. Should. His puzzle pieces are at least shaped to fit back together.

New breather...

Leftover gasket from the H55 install in '06...

Back half on...

Transfer case 99% done. The rear flange & bolts are soaking in cleaner, and I need to swap the speedo seals.

I was in a hurry to hang this off the motor, but I'll probably wait until it goes in. It's only four bolts. Pretty cool that I don't have to "split" the case to separate it from the transmission. (Though I really hope I don't have a reason too.)

Now my attention will turn to getting the motor in the truck - cleaning off old motor mounts, unneeded parts, etc. :bounce::bounce2:

I was out finishing up the t-case. I had two studs spinning loose, so I replaced those.

When I put the output housing back on and measured the preload, it seems to be a little loose. I don't know exactly what I'm getting because my inch-lb torque wrench starts at 25, and the max preload is 24, but it is way looser than that.

I put the output back on without the gasket, and that was definitely too tight. I'm guessing I need the next size up adjusting shim.

Does anyone know what the marking on the shims look like? Is this it?

No mark. Mic the shim and then go up or down as needed based on the chart.

The "mark #" is for cross reference to the EPC for the parts guys.

;)

Wait, what?

Under hood cleanup has begun.

I got the bumper and valence pulled off. They were keeping the engine picker from getting as close as it needed to be.

About a kerbillion little brackets and splash guards came off. As did the old main power and ground wires. Then the A/C lines, ARB compressor and charcoal canister.

The only thing left to remove is the clutch plumbing, fuel plumbing, and some misc. unused hard vacuum plumbing.

I want the wiring to be as clean as possible. These main pieces of harness are pretty much only used for the headlights and marker lights. I'm going to run those in the void behind the inner fender after I clean the old plugs off and wrap it with new loom.

Last, but not least, I got the engine mounts cut off.

Aside from the little bit of grinding on the old welds, it is ready for the new motor.

If you take the hood off...your life will be easier....make sure to mark the bolt washers if you do.

We used a string across the fenders to ball park for engine height (hood clearance).

I'd rather sleep with Chris Tolleson than have to read and follow a Toyota Factory Service Manual
Does Chris prefer midgets?

I would be more exciting and would not take as long to finish.
