I’m glad to jump back on this site after 14 years of owning a Mustang and an almost unmentionable Altima. I guess the kiddos toys were more important than dad’s toys.

BUT... that’s all changing now. The information I’ve already found here is really invaluable as building up a GX is not as straight forward as rigs I’ve had in the past.

Spent more on the initial purchase than I planned for so my build will be much more researched and a bit slower than expected.

First step of course is the lift and required equipment for the larger tire fit. I’m planning on going 285/75/17 which I understand is a less common tire. Already have the plans for the BMC and some fender cuts.

Will try to upgrade as I progress as it’s these threads that have brought me the ideas for my own build. Thanks to the community for all your past and future advice.

I dunno man.

Always good to have a brother to borrow a spare from - or lend one - when in need.

Looking forward to your photos and logs of your build!
And I agree, look at your end game and plan well so you only have to buy once.

exactly... it’s usually cheaper to buy them than build them but it’s absolutely cheaper to build them once than twice.

I’m pretty dead set on a Toytec 2.0 or 2.5 lift. I’ve not seen them as the first or second most common lift on the GX but anyone installed the Toytec?

En route:
- Toytec Aluma Series Boss 2.0 3” lift
- 285/75/70 Toyo Open Country A/T IIII
- Method MR701 Bronze 17x8.5 with -10 offset

Pretty stoked will post photo updates when I’m finished with round 1 of mods. 🙌🏼

I have had the ToyTec 2.0 Aluma series lift with SPC upper control arms for about 6 months. I have been happy with it. It is a bit firmer than stock but I like it. I have a steel Coastal Offroad bumper and it handles the weight well. I like that I can adjust the front coil-overs to accommodate the weight if I ever add a winch.

Compared with OME lifts on several land cruisers, a tacoma, and a 5th gen 4runner in the family, I like the Toytec off road because it has better articulation. OME feels slightly more planted than the Toytec lift or road, but overall I like the Toytec better.

Toytec just put the same lift on a GX460 as a shop truck which is cool.

Did you go with the HD springs? I did not but will be adding weight over time and I’m hoping the adjustments compensate for that.

Yes, HD springs in the back. They are the same springs for the 4Runner and Hugo with toytec said that the third row in the GX460 adds enough weight that they are recommended. I’m not sure they are needed but the ride isn’t too stiff and I tow a pop-up trailer a few times a year and they are nice for that too.

Bolted everything on today. Putting the lift on was pretty straight forward. The only snag was aligning the sway bar a bit after the lift. We just dropped the sway bar out to get a better angle for the two clamps.

Will have to finish some cuts and an alignment in the morning, but stoked to get this going.
