Condolences. Losing a dog is always hard.

My backpacking companion Kuma is half Chow. Her father was Chow and her mother was Rottweiler and Aussie shepard. Needless to say she is VERY willful and loves chasing Marmots or anything else on 4 legs. She is a difficult mix and I must say I don't recommend a Chow mix unless you're very patient and dominant.

On the plus side she has a very thick coat that lets her stay warm. Her hair is fine and doesn't get all over the place. She's 55 pounds which is a good size. I can pick her up easily if needed. She carries her own food and treats in her dog pack. Chows like to pull and can carry quite a bit. Makes a great camp security system also.

thx cowboyup i truly appreciate the support trips arent gonna be the same for awhile

Get a Border Collie Australian Sheepdog mix.

Below is a pic of mine. Super intelligent and curious. Pretty good listeners if there aren't small animals to chase. LOVES CAMPING.

If you have your heart set on a "Burner" there's an annual get-together in Half Moon Bay, CA every year. I hear there are over a hundred dogs that show up. I'd put money on there being puppies...

I'm sorry to hear that, I couldn't imagine losing my own dog.

Looking at your pics, she's doing everything I'm familair with Border Collies doing. They're just affectionate on the verge of needy.

I hope you can find another copilot.

Love my mutt. She loves going for rides and being outdoors! She loves the truck and the 80.
Haven't had the weather to camp in the 80 yet but herd she is last summer in the 93 p/u

Been awhile....

...but I did decide on a new camping companion. His name is Hankasauras Tex (Hank for short). He is a Heeler/Shepherd mix. Goofiest dog I've ever owned but I do love him.

Nice find William! I'm a big fan of any working dog mix - they're just the smartest and most loyal (totally biased I admit...)

BTW, my Charlie is in the semi finals for 7x7 Magazines cutest dog contest! If any of you guys care to you can vote at the link below... Charlie is number 25! Go Chewy!

Well I can't really take credit for the find. I told the :princess: what I wanted and she found Hank. I've never been happier.

Looks like you found a good one: hanks are always good dogs, here is my little hank all 100 pounds. He is a malamute/ Wolf with some lab. Mutts are the best all around dogs in my opinion. I also have a pure bred Siberian Husky and as much as I love him dahm he is a pain in the ass. But in the woods you'll never find a smarter dog. I never know where he's at but he always knows just where I am, all the while henry is within 50 feet guarding the pack

While I haven't been able to talk the :princess: into any camping recently, here's my outdoors bud Brinkley (yes, after "you've got mail"...) I wanted a male lab, she wanted a female Golden, we got a male golden and the wife named it. Golden's are such great dogs, there is not a mean bone in his 97lbs body.

It's been a while since I've seen any new pics.

Well we've done our research and finally got our name on a list with a Swissy breeder. This breeder works a little differently than others and I think I like it. They meet you in person and any other pets you may have and then tries to pair you with a Swissy who has the same "personality" as you and your family. Basically they pair you with the dog that they feel will best fit into your daily life, which I think is handy. The litter is scheduled for this summer so lets hope things turn out good. Got my fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone who posted here, and for the pics of other breeds, there are some interesting looking dogs out there. I like it!!!

Did you ever get a swissy?
I've been looking for a areal long time for one, but they are really hard to get on a breeders list if you don't want to compete with it.
If you have any leads, I'd be grateful.
