as long as we are throwing out breeds for consideration.
I grew up in Oregon with a big old standard poodle, when I moved to the desert he came along. I've had four more since. They are one great family dog and absolutely love the outdoors. They are great swimmers, as you would expect of a dog breed as a retriever, they are also good for upland game. All of mine have been tough as nails, they will literally sleep in a snow bank. I have seen a few dogs from show breeders that are total pussies. Look for a breeder in Oklahoma or some other place where they still hunt these dogs. They are also hypoallergenic, almost any other breed will get my eyes watering in just a few minutes of close contact.

He is a great companion in my opinion

I've spent time w/ standard poodle: she was much more smarter than me.

This is my "Lil Girl" ~~Eliza~~ shes a pure breed Border Collie, shes been a wonderful navigator. she doesnt whine or bitch about my Cb being too loud or the static bugging her. doesnt complain about the bummpy roads .........well i do get the look every so often. she doesnt give me the I TOLD YA SO, or the SLOW DOWN guff . she just sits there quietly and does her own thing. and she loves to go camping with us, she just wonders around camp and goes retreving pine cones for us ( mind you i think she thinks there balls and wants us to play and throw them for her) which we just keep throwing in the fire. i love her shes my lil girl and a great camping buddy, that and my .45

O man this picture with her crawling under your rig with you, bring me memory with my baby when she was a puppy 11/ 12 years ago when I was doing my apartment remodeling with her and she was my supervisor and quality inspector :) !
She was just next to me all day and watch me every move and smell and check almost each nail that I used, tools or other materials .
Alya was a great listener and companion all her life. God rest her soul and give her a new happy life :frown:!

All the pictures are great and she is a great companion for you and your family :beer:.

yeah shes a great dog. shes a lazy loaf but i love her. even though she has to pop her head into everything and on everyone .......hell she still open the door to the bathroom to see if your ok in there:bang:

thedambackpackingtrip028.jpg

Come on, she will love that dry seats :grinpimp: :hillbilly: !
Usually, I used a towel for my baby to dry to not get sick..., but in the end the dry seats was the best solution for her to get dry good and I believe was her favorite part after be wet for a wile :).

I have cover seats and a blanket on the top that will help to keep the dirt in one place and dry the seats, but never the sand :hhmm:.

well when my seats are up yeah i use a old sheet or blanket. but she likes to paw and dig to i guess make it more comfey for here so it usually winds up on the floor. thank god for tehn fold down seats:flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:. but she likes sitting in the front seat ..so i just have to keep her wet ass off of my Cb which is jerry rigged on my center consol cover

Jindo

Another option would be a Jindo. Kind of a rare breed from Korean. Our Jindo "shelby" loves the outdoors. I've hiked for hours and never had a problem. She has a double coat and she sheds water easily. Only sheds twice a year. A bit hyper at times, but shes only 6 months old. Will only grow to be 30-35lbs.

Bernese are great Camping Dogs

I agree with the original thought on Berners. Our dog is mellow, great with kids, and appropriately protective. She rides well in cars - including the cruiser.

Unfortunately our Seattle area breeder passed away after this puppy came to use three years ago (Hidden Valley). We found it does take some work to get to know the good breeders, but the investment has worked out well for us.

Sorry I can be more help - mainly just encouragement.

Well we've done our research and finally got our name on a list with a Swissy breeder. This breeder works a little differently than others and I think I like it. They meet you in person and any other pets you may have and then tries to pair you with a Swissy who has the same "personality" as you and your family. Basically they pair you with the dog that they feel will best fit into your daily life, which I think is handy. The litter is scheduled for this summer so lets hope things turn out good. Got my fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone who posted here, and for the pics of other breeds, there are some interesting looking dogs out there. I like it!!!

Good luck and enjoy every second with your dogs!

Well that's the game plan. There is a lot camping, hiking and offroading planned for this summer. For those of you who are not familiar with the Pacific Northwest during the summer, I'm not sure there is a more beautiful place in the United States.

You so right, we have everything here just with few hours of drive around to us, mountain, ocean, rivers, desert, rain forest and volcanos!

The boys have been the greatest companions. They are the best rattler alarm one would ever want. The blaze the trail to make sure :princess: is safe! They never complaint about the heat, but when it over 100 they will try to find shade in the desert. The love the LC and know it's theirs. In fact, I took out the middle row seats for them. My human kids have left the nest and don't ride with us anymore! :)

These boys were abondoned on the streets by their previous owners, so we took them in! The rescue folks said it is the economy!
