Folks, I am most of the way driving from South Texas to Alaska. Original plan was to get to Deadhorse. However, on the way my 2300 2 barrel Holley sniper is giving me fits.
From Texas at sea level and 85F , I have been up to 7,000 ft through the Rockies, and this morning in Dease Lake, BC on the Cassiar Highway it was 44F this morning.
The FJ40 has had a sniper with an in tank fuel pump and return installed for about a year, with no major issues, once I rerouted the fuel lines to keep things cool, it was working well.
During the first few days there was a slight miss, like one cylinder not firing occasionally, so I checked the plugs and one was pretty dirty, all the others were a light tan. Cleaned the plug and it seemed to make a difference for a day or so. I then picked up some new plugs and replaced them all yesterday.
This morning it was 44F and the truck did not want to start, took about 10 minutes to finally get it to start, with a lot of misfires and very rough idle. Eventually got it to settle down , but something is definitely not right.
After driving for a couple of hours, when I turn off the key it runs on for a few seconds. I believe it’s called desieling?
When decelerating I get some pops and what sounds like backfiring.

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. Should I rerun the wizard and start from scratch? Monitoring the gauges, it seems to be doing most of what it should, AFR values around 14,

Finally found a vehicle older than the 40 at the Jade mine.

Good call, you took the Cassiar highway rather than the Alcan.
Sucks that the 40 isn't running properly. Sorry, I can't help but will bump up your post in the hopes someone who can sees it.
