I also want to acknowledge @Otis for laying out a route that slowly ramped up in a technical sense so the newbs wouldn’t end up becoming ’once and done’ . You could tell from the smiles on everyone’s faces that nobody was stressed about the trail.👍🏻

It was a fun run and I am really glad that I decided to camp! I placed a bunch of photos from Katelin and I in the club album. Unfortunately, since I was at the front and she was at the back we missed photos of many in the middle of the group... Calico 2026 Photos

Hi everyone. We had a blast at the Calico run this weekend and wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who helped organize it! We'll post some pictures later this week.

Also, today we are headed for the Angeles national forest area, north of Santa Clarita. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions or a favorite trail in that area we should try. I looked at OnX and if we don't come up with something better we'll probably do Del Sur ridge.

If anyone else is in that area today, let us know. We'd love to have some company on the trail.

@CandM LB not super close, but you're near the Hungry Valley off road park. Its a pay-to-enter place but lots of trails back there and some fun stuff. Put it in the maybe pile if you cant find anything else.

Miller Jeep trail is also kind of in that same area but I've never been on it so I cant give you much info.

It’s been a lot of years, but IIRC the climb from San Francisquito Canyon to Del Sur ridge was kind of challenging. Almost to the point I might not suggest doing it alone.

My one and only flop in 46 years of wheeling was on the Bouquet side of the ridge.

inquiring minds want to know: was that sideways on this weekends run?

Thats a great photo. Hoping you just put her back rubber side down and kept going.
It’s actually a mildly interesting story. It took two winches from two other club members just to pull it back to a 45; the truck would not right itself. I had to climb back in it at the 45 and drive it out, attached to the two winch cables, to right it.

Everyone was incredulous that the truck had sat on its side for almost an hour, yet when I turned the key, it fired immediately. One guy even had the nerve to ask if I had EFI! (Funny if you know my reputation as a master carb rebuilder)

But yes, we were able to continue the run. The flop was literally at a dead stop; the canvas softtop didn’t even tear.😉

Thanks for the info. Great picture too! We were planning to enter on Quarry road and exit on Coarse Gold road. We don't have a winch, so we're pretty cautious when traveling alone. Will read the recent trail reports again and might change plans at the last minute. Glad you climbed out of that one ok!

Miller Jeep Trail is a nice trail but I think it is closed for the season. The club is planning to run it in the spring.
Speaking of planning, are we discussing runs this Sunday or next Sunday. I’m thinking of making a weekend in South OC

George and I were just talking at the campfire Saturday about how much free firewood there is in the north SFV. Found this dead tree limb a few blocks from the house today blocking the sidewalk and decided to do a little public service.
