I also want to acknowledge @Otis for laying out a route that slowly ramped up in a technical sense so the newbs wouldn’t end up becoming ’once and done’ . You could tell from the smiles on everyone’s faces that nobody was stressed about the trail.

It’s been a lot of years, but IIRC the climb from San Francisquito Canyon to Del Sur ridge was kind of challenging. Almost to the point I might not suggest doing it alone.Hi everyone. We had a blast at the Calico run this weekend and wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who helped organize it! We'll post some pictures later this week.
Also, today we are headed for the Angeles national forest area, north of Santa Clarita. I'm curious if anyone has suggestions or a favorite trail in that area we should try. I looked at OnX and if we don't come up with something better we'll probably do Del Sur ridge.
If anyone else is in that area today, let us know. We'd love to have some company on the trail.
inquiring minds want to know: was that sideways on this weekends run? It’s been a lot of years, but IIRC the climb from San Francisquito Canyon to Del Sur ridge was kind of challenging. Almost to the point I might not suggest doing it alone.
My one and only flop in 46 years of wheeling was on the Bouquet side of the ridge.

It’s actually a mildly interesting story. It took two winches from two other club members just to pull it back to a 45; the truck would not right itself. I had to climb back in it at the 45 and drive it out, attached to the two winch cables, to right it.Thats a great photo. Hoping you just put her back rubber side down and kept going.
Thanks for the info. Great picture too! We were planning to enter on Quarry road and exit on Coarse Gold road. We don't have a winch, so we're pretty cautious when traveling alone. Will read the recent trail reports again and might change plans at the last minute. Glad you climbed out of that one ok!It’s been a lot of years, but IIRC the climb from San Francisquito Canyon to Del Sur ridge was kind of challenging.
