Calico - January 24, 2026 Club Run

The club is planning the usual run to Calico on January 24 and anyone is welcome to join us. This run can either be a scenic day trip or overnight trip depending on your time frame (and the weather!). The club run will be on the milder trails around Calico Ghost Town (not on Doran or Odessa). This run will be suitable for stock vehicles but keep in mind a couple of spots are challenging and may either be passable with spotting or through a bypass (I don't guarantee you will not get any scratches!). The plan for the day trip is to meet on Saturday (Jan. 24) at the intersection of Calico Road and Mule Canyon Road (click here for map) at 9:00 A.M. and head out on the trail by 9:30.

Attached is a Google Earth file with the approximate route of the trail we ran last year (trails marked in red and yellow). I am planning to follow the same route again this year since the trail has a few challenges and we can usually make reasonable time with a large group. Let me know if you have any other trail ideas to consider. Note that if the group gets too large way may split up and have one group leave earlier.

If you have any questions, post up or message me. Message me if you want my phone number. For our Ham operators, let's use channel 146.535.

If you are planning on attending (or camping) please post here or message me so we do not leave anyone behind.

Thanks!

Hello. We're new to the website. Would love to go on one of your runs. LC250. Haven't been to calico before so this looks like fun. If you have space for one more, please count us in. Chris and Mandy

Too bad we can’t put the weather on hold! This weekend’s weather looks good!

I am fairly certain we also run GMRS but I am not really familiar with these radios… I am old school and still have a functioning CB in my 40! Someone other than me on the run will know radio frequencies and we will make sure everyone is on the same frequency before we leave.

yo sisters y brothers, I (and possibly Ana) will be attending this fine event.

Plan: leave dp 11a on friday morn. anticpate being at calico/mule canyon 130ish. have a not so long range ham.

Will this run be a basecamp or overlanding model? If basecamp, I'd like to know location thursday pm. if overlanding, poke and hope with the ham or ?

Keep on keeping on!

P.S. If basecamp, I'd like to look over any 100's or lexus versions for how you get power from starter battery to assumed cargo area

It can be whatever you want it to be! Jerry said that he would post something in the next day or two regarding camping. I forgot that I had a lunchtime doctor's appointment on Friday so if I decide to camp I won't get out there until later in the afternoon. I plan on camping Saturday night if the weather's good.

If it’s democratic, I’d vote for a base camp because I am planning to bring six crates of firewood in the back of my pickup that I’d rather not shlep on the trail.😊

I think that whoever steps up first can take the lead and make the decision!

It looks like @TemboTusk is out for camping and maybe the run because of truck issues... So far I think @65swb45 and @Live to Ski are the only ones planning to camp on Friday night. Can you guys confirm? I am still undecided about heading out Friday and don't really want to be the only one out there camping if I do...

I’m 3/4 loaded for Friday afternoon rollout.

While taking care of some honey-does at the casa today, look what I found!
