Calico Ghost Town - Barstow, CA, January 20, (Rating = 2-5)

Scenic day trip on the milder trails around Calico Ghost Town. This run will be suitable for stock vehicles.

The plan is to meet on Sunday (Jan. 20) at the intersection of Calico Road and Mule Canyon Road (click here for map) at 8:30 A.M. and head out on the trail at 9:00.

A few club members may head out to Calico on Saturday (Jan. 19) to camp but there is no set plan (yet).

Are these trails being hit hard by the rain? We have heavy rain along the coast thru Thursday and into Friday.

Rain could definitely impact some of the trails at Calico but I don’t think it should be a problem for our run. There are plenty of trails so we could always find a different route if the planned trail is washed out...

What do I need to pack? Lunch I assume. First Aid, Recovery Gear, etc? Any minimum requirements or suggestions?

 

[Otis]

Bring whatever recovery gear you have but I would not rush out and buy some for this run if you do not have any. Bring an air pump if you have one because we will probably air down our tires. Warm clothing is a good idea in case we are out on the trail late.

I don't have recovery gear yet nor an air pump. I assumed I could air up at the nearest gas station or use someone else's.
How long are we on the trails? If we start at 9 I assume we're done around 3?

I am sure someone could air you up. We could be done by around 3 but you never know... Also, if you need to get going early there may be an opportunity to peel off from the group depending on where we are.

Land Cruisers, ForeRunners and Raptor out on the trails. I really appreciated your leadership.
