I sent a friend to go look at this pig and make offer, we’ll see what they come back with.

I’m only interested in the front end so it will work for what I want.

Moon roof, roof rack and rusted out roof would make a restoration expensive, missing a bunch of parts also.

I have some info on that wagon as I saved it from a grave around 1998. Found it near Grizzly Flat, Ca. under an oak tree. Bought it, towed it home and did a lot of scrubbing, fixed a bunch of wheel cylinders and master cyl, and clutch hydraulics. Rebuilt the carb, did some tweaking on the engine and drove it for about a week. A freeze plug blew behind the head on the firewall side. So I towed it home, pulled the tranny, t/c, and bell and flywheel to change all of the freeze plugs, Read the owners manual and noticed early tuna boats (that's what we called wagons before the word PIG surfaced) came with 3 or 4-speeds so I put a used 4-speed in. Put some good stock tires and hubcaps on, and even put a new nylon gear in the rear window lifter upper. Pulled out all of the shag carpet and speakers. I think this was at one time owned buy the Grateful Dead as it came from Marin, Ca. Drove it to the swine a rama in Davis and have a certificate for the oldest pig attending. Sold it I think in 2000 to a fellow from June lake or Mammoth Mountain, and stuffed the back of it with a complete interior from a 1978 55 I parted out. At the time NO real rust to speak of. #910 1968 FJ55 Good Luck as this vehicle is not all original because I have it's driveline, tranny and transfer case in my shed. John

What a story!!

To think it could've been:

"She can dance a Cajun rhythm, jump like a Piggy in four wheel drive..."

Jerry goofed on that one....

It'd been revealed that this Pig was more of a basket case than what I was interested in taking on, but that puts a new perspective on it, since a verifiable story and source.

If you've the drivetrain and considering the VIN, think it's a damn good resto candidate....for someone else to undertake, and feel it'd be only right that a Deadhead sticker display on the rear glass!

Thanks for the story, I've made an offer and if some how I end up with it and someone wants to try to save it I will resell it for what I pay and they could reunite all the parts.

Good roof skins do seem to be in short supply and fabricating one from scratch would be cost prohibitive so this one would have to be a labor of love to justify the work required.

I've two good ones,

So it looks like if I was willing to buy this pig for $2600.00 and pay the state of California their extortion fee for the back DMV fees still owed then shipped the pig to Idaho to begin work and if you were willing to sell one of your said roof skins and ship to Idaho I would have $8,000.00 into this before I started spending money on the restore.

Think I need a new hobby!

Why pay CA the back fees?

I didn't on the '76.....granted I had to unconventionally gain title to, due to seller's screwup.

Edited: I was thinking boat side, ala FC-style, on this one.

Edited again: I won't need two roof skins, so will have a spare.

If I can ever free the '72 from the current shop where she's being held hostage, it'll prolly boat side, too.

Not fighting rust, anymore.

if you want register it here in nevada, no back fees... then you can take it back to california or where ever..

Nothing set in concrete yet, first I need to get it to Idaho and have a look at it. Fenders, grill and hood will most likely end up on the front of the 76.

Thanks veeLC for posting and Delancy for passing.
