Sounds like a great idea. Did you pull the emblems off or just get fancy with the painting tape?

i got fancy with the painting tape and oversprayed the hell out of it. so make sure you really do a good job of using butcher paper/newspaper/postcards whatever you're using. had to have the detailer get all the excess off. :)

Glad I could help.

If anyone has seen a rust free (south western truck), White, 2003 or newer, with less than 125,000 miles in SoCal for a decent price, please PM me.

Expanding the search to a white 2001 through 2005. Looking for under 150k with maintenance records, no navigation and from a rust free area.

I don't care about the leather, steering wheel, front bumper, running boards, tires, wheels, suspension because I'm going to replace all of those anyway.

If anyone sees anything good, please send it my way. I feel like I've exhausted the 500m radius around my home already.

Carmax in henderson nevada has a white 2004 LX470 Vegas vehicle since new with under 90k miles. I think they want $26k, it is perfect. I bought my 2005 with 107k miles all nevada miles and every service done on time at the local Vegas dealership from new, with new Michelin tires for $23k. When you buy a 100series that spent its life in a desert environment (no rust or corrosion) and all the maintance was done on time and by the book it is worth more money. If operated in a dry salt free environment and maintained by the book the 100series should be good for 500k miles. Don't buy a rust belt 100series, even though they are made of double sided galvanized steel this new salt on steroids that the rust belt states are using will eat any vehicle. I would rather pay more for a 10 year old AZ or NV LX then a 5 year newer lower mileage LX that has spent it's life in the rust belt.

YEah. I have a 2000 originally from PA. I'm trying to find one with around 125k, well maintained for around $12000

This one appears to be in good shape...
It has the nav, but to be honest, I've never seen a 2003 without nav.

I would consider this vehicle if it were closer.

The mini dealership in Marin county also has a 2003 with about 140k on it. It is the grey metallic color:

Related to buying, selling, what year, how much, etc:
What's the deal with taxes on a used car purchased in a different state?

I live in Alaska where we don't have any sales tax or vehicle use tax.
We just pay a small registration fee ($100-200) every two years.
Alaska is where I would register the vehicle.

If I were to buy a 'cruiser in Washington, or California, and bring it back to AK on the ferry,
would I have to pay WA or CA sales tax?

They don't charge tax when it's going out of state. I bought my 2000 in PA drove it to VA then shipped it to CA and only paid sales tax when i registered it here. If only I could register my new one in Alaska....

Thanks for the links. Ill have to look into those two and see if they're ones i've already nixed for some reason.

Hey Nick, don't know if you'd be interested in CA truck presently in AZ. 2000 with 78k miles. I have a 2000 that hasn't failed me yet:

A quick question to those who know more than I (that would be just about everyone ;)).

I know that all LC100's are supposed to have the VIN sticker on all the major body panels (unless they've been replaced) but does that hold true for LX470's. I've looked at a few now and none of them had the VIN stickers on the door jambs like the LC100's I've looked at. Surely they haven't all had all they're doors replaced?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Hey guys,

LONG time lurker here - thanks for all the info you all have provided over the years...

Anyway, an Atlanta area dealer has an 05 LC with 145000 miles. I havent seen it in person, but I have checked it on Carfax and the Toyota website listed above. No wrecks or any suspicious stuff on the background but it looks like the timing belt was never replaced. The dealer has dropped the price substantially within the last few weeks - its now at 16995, which seems a little high to me.
The quandary I have is that to afford the 05, Id have to trade or sell my 02 Tacoma double cab (4dr-4cyl-2wd) and my 1989 FJ62 ( GREAT body- good engine-bad tranny). My wife wants the 62 gone so she can park in the garage again, and frankly I cant afford the tranny swap or rebuild. However, im reluctant to buy a vehicle that has almost as many miles as the Tacoma I have now.
Any thoughts?

With normal service you should not have any failures for several 100K miles.
Need to get the T belt and water pump done.

If you're in the market, there's a 2003 with 120K in Juneau FS for 16K. You can find it on Craigslist.

Been lurking for a while here myself... I'm looking at a 2001 LC with 203 K - It is the original owner and most of the miles have been highway. She has kept all maintenance records and it looks to be maintained regularly. The only things she's done other than brakes / tires etc, is replace a cracked exhaust manifold. It's immaculate throughout. She's asking $9,500. Should I be concerned about the mileage? Anything else to look for? Any thoughts or questions would be appreciated.

Buy it for that priCe if it breaks you can afford to fix it

Hi all, first post here, looking for a 100 series. Lexus / Toyota not really critical. I'm accustomed to driving and tinkering with older cars, but I want a 100 for tri-duty: wife's daily driver, family duties, and weekend fun -- camping, canoeing, etc. I've always purchased older, very high-quality cars -- have owned a succession of 123 and 124-bodied Mercedes, so I'm not afraid of what the odometer says.

I strongly prefer purchasing from a private owner. No sales tax, and usually (not always, LOL) less B.S. I'm in metro Atlanta. There is an '05 Cruiser at a local Toyota dealer, 145K miles, $16.9K. Appears a reasonable deal but not a steal. Love the 5sp auto, could not care less about navigation. Haven't gone to check it out in person yet. Thoughts?

Any input helpful. Thanks!

Matt in Atlanta

DOZ146 - Actually, that 05 seems to be a good deal. I'd love a 5-sp transmission. As long as it checks out, I'd go for it. Plenty of 00-02 LC's have gone recently for ~$12-14k with similar mileage. Jump up to an 05 would be worth it, in my opinion.

Thank you very much. I'm going to go have a look at that '05 rig as soon as I can.

Also, if anyone's aware of a stock or very lightly modified 100, PM me. I have a wide price range that I'd consider. Don't care about color, don't care much about mileage, and definitely open to doing a fly out / drive back transaction. Would prefer the 5sp auto, all else equal.

I'd be curious what the board thinks of the following rig:

2002 LX470
132,000 mi (215,000KM)
Clean CarFax report
Some but not all service history...nothing concerning in what is there
Very clean exterior and interior with no rust anywhere
Private sale asking $14,000 firm

This truck is in Canada (as am I) but I'm curious what you all think as if this were in the U.S. market as one of my options is to find a U.S. vehicle and import it.

I've never considered buying a vehicle with that many miles on it but it is a 100 series (with makeup :p) and the price would allow me to do just about all the mods I think I want right away.

Cheers,

It would sell for exactly $14k here in Alaska, provided the timing belt service has been done. $14 k is a fair price for the LX that you describe- as far as I can tell.

Don't worry about the mileage- just check for 1) timing belt service, 2) play in the suspension (does it clatter over speed bumps? , is the steering tight?) 3) condition of body- for $14k you should not have any dents or rust.

If the condition of the truck checks out, then I'd say it is priced fairly relative to the Alaska market.

132k miles is no cause for concern. The value has more to do with the condition of the truck and how it has been maintained than with the number of miles.

I'd rather have 200k Nevada highway miles than 50k New Hampshire coast miles.

Hope this helps.
