99 100 series I have some ???s

I have been looking for 100 for a couple of months. I have looked at more than I can count land cruisers on fleabay and craigs. I found a rig on ebay that looks promising. Here are the details

  • 1999 with 95k
  • 90k service not done but says he used mobil1 syn for all oil changes.
  • NEEDS.. new antenna, o2 sensor, front passenger lock acuator, ac is blowing warm air. Also has a denr on rear drivers side quarter panel. it doesnt look awful. I know a good body guy.
  • The bid is up to 8k and the buy it now is 10,700.
  • Vehicle has lockers I think. He said it has locking Diff and he never used it. So with that said it might be good or a bad thing. If it hasnt been used they may not be good.
Just looking for some feedback on pricing. I have been pretty patient and want to make the right purchase. Thanks

Fly to wherever it's at and see/inspect in person. If its worth the buy it now do so if not pass.

ebay is full of sham bidders especially among the pros so the buy it now prices are the only honest prices.

Add the price of timing belt/water pump/all the needs you listed. I think you are now getting close to the price of other trucks that do not have these outstanding issues. OTOH, very low miles, so if you are willing to do all the rehab work yourself, maybe a good deal.

I found many LCs on cars.com. I kept looking until I found one 1) sold by owner, 2) in decent shape with maintenance records, 3) and whose story was backed up by the carfax. I flew to AZ to inspect/seal the deal/drive home. If you have the luxury of fly/drive, then focus your search in the west.

Quick sanity check

Hello all, thanks for the great forum....I need a quick sanity check - I am looking at an awesome 2001 LC100 (with service history etc.) with only 45k miles for around 20k. Is that way too much to pay for this model yr or should I bite the bullet for a keeper LC.

If you do not plan to modify your systems (lift, armor, etc etc etc), and all systems are go (no R&R needed), and you plan to keep the vehicle, then I would work him down as much as you can on the price and buy it. I spent $16k on a 2001 with 122k miles (with all paper work) - I then spent a few grand on total baseline PM, shocks, rotors, stainless steel brake lines, stereo and speakers - so close to your 20k price after all said and done for a 100% vehicle.

You'll get a million opinions, but I think that's a reasonable price for a well-maintained 'ultra-virgin' LC; there's just not that many around. If it spent the last 10 years sitting in the weather and has rotted rubber and rusty parts then probably not such a good deal. If you like the color and trust the vehicle then go for it. But as with any transaction, the price is alway negotiable and as the other poster indicated, try and work your way down. If it has factory Nav, just so you know you're going to be stuck with it for the rest of the vehicles life; they're not replaceable/upgradeable. Since it's an LC you're have good odds of being safe, 01 and 02 LX's are quite rare without Nav.

Personally, if I were going to spend ~$20K, I'd get an 03+. Even if it has more miles than that 01. Merely for the 5-sp transmission. But the drawback is most come with the Navi controlled HVAC system, which have been known to fail and cost $$$$.

Thoughts about an 03 with 115k miles and an asking price of $21,995? From the pictures, I don't see the timing belt sticker. It appears to be in pretty nice shape.

Probably a little on the high side with 115k, but not unreasonably so. It's shoot for $1,000-$1,500 less, but it all depends upon the specific vehicle and how long you intend to have it. What's the carfax say for ownership history? Much rust? Service records?

I haven't gone to look at it yet. It is at a dealer and I wanted to know if it is too high to even begin. I definitely want 03+.

As a starting price for an 03 from a dealer that's reasonable. Get the carfax first before you go.

I'd say $19k WITH the 90k service done. Not sure if this is a Toyota dealership or not, but make sure they use all OEM parts--especially timing belt and water pump.

I bought my '03 with 117k miles from a non-Toyota dealership without the 90k service done for just shy of $18k. FYI.

About a month ago I bought a 2003 with the 90k service done and 97.5k miles for $20k. The only real issue was the carpet needed to be cleaned and it needed wiper blades. This was a private party sale, which also saved on sales tax.

Advice? Thinking of buying a 200K mi 100 series.

Hey all,

I've wanted a LC for quite some time and am thinking of getting one for a daily driver. I currently have a vette that I drive most days and a '93 Trooper that's lifted and has some other minor stuff done to it. The Trooper is a bit too hardcore (and a 5-speed) to drive daily and I want something that can serve a few purposes- road trip duty, light offroad ability, and daily driver. I know it drinks gas so that's no surprise...

I'm looking at a '99 LC with 190K miles- asking $9500. Exterior-wise, it looks sharp with a few minor scratches and dings, no biggie. The truck just had the timing belt/water puimp service done (dealer sticker on the engine even) and had the oil changed. The guy owned since new and took to the dealer on all service items (and it shows). He has all the paperwork and even the original window sticker. He drives it out of state for work and hence the miles. I drove it and it sounds quiet and smooth, drives great, shifts smooth and has no leaks or smells. Even the CV boots and ball joints look brand new. The only things wrong with it as far as I can tell are: the tires are bald, the sunroof is stuck closed (makes noise but doesn't move) and the driver's seat bolster is torn. The leather is dirty too but I can fix that. My real concern is the mileage for the price. I know these trucks are supposed to last forever but that IS alot of miles to start out on for me for ~$10K. My Trooper has over 200K and has been great and reliable the 4 years I've had it but I only paid 2 grand for that truck.

So my question is this- should I jump and know that 200K miles is just getting started with the LC- (especially considering it's maintenance record), or should I hold out for a lower mileage specimen? Hoping some current owners can shed some light. Thanks!

If it has been well maintained (mechanically), I see no problem with 200k miles. At all. I also think the price is a bit high though. Haggle it down.

 I thought this was for asking questions about future purchases, not for selling personal items.
