I figured this would be a good place for a thread about welders since more than half of all threads here are based on projects built by guys that have them.
I know how to weld MIG and TIG. I dont wanna spend the amount required for a TIG, so Im looking at getting a MIG.
I have used all miller welders in various shops. But I never paid much attention to the model numbers.
I would like to buy a miller based on my positive experinces with them. But since I am asking for advice, please reccomend what brand you prefer.
My main goal is to start beefing up my truck. spring perch, shackle relocate, winch bumpers, recovery points, various tube protectors and other various 4x4 mods.
I imagine the majority of steel I would be working with would be either 1/4" to 5/16"
I have a 220VAC outlet, but have no idea what phase is or how to check it.
I imagine I will be doing some kind of sheet metal work, but so I want a welder that can do the light stuff too. But that dosent mean I want to downgrade if I dont have to.
So based on the kind of work Im going to do, and my voltage supply, what, in your experinced opinon, brand and model of MIG welder should I buy?
Oh, one important factor, obviously is price. I would like to keep this welder under $1000
Thanks a LOT!
